Finished The Stormlight Archive. and while listing to ashes and blood by woodkid i noticed some uncanny similarities.
This is gonna be a long post about how one of my favorite songs from one of my fav shows has damn near perfect lyrics for this series as a whole.
Ashes and Blood by Woodkid from Arcane has some uncanny resemblance to this story lol.
These are the lyrics and the matching moments/elements:
[Verse 1]
"You walk along the edge of danger
And it will change you"
- kaladin at the chasms when he wanted to jump is what always come up in my mind but i do think alot of moments could work on this specific moment.
"Why would you let this voice set in your head?
It is meant to destroy you"
- Sezth and Ishar in wind and truth fits this.
"You summon storms, you play with nature
Now watch it hurt you"
- I like to think this the most about dalinar and gavilar both messing with powers in the beginning of their stories but i also think it fits with the storm forms and of course tanavast.
"Why would you want to shape the world in your hands?
You will never make it through"
- I hope Taravangian/Odium fits this one day. but I also think this could easily fit characters like ishar and the whole topic of honor/cultivation breaking the rule of multiples.
[Chorus]
"Catch the fire burning out your soul"
-first time i heard the song after reading the books this reminded me of the shardblades.
"just make it die or you will turn it all to ashes and blood"
- i do not have any for this. i would like any help in the comments lol.
"You waste your life to gain power"
- Nightblood
"You shift the game rules"
- Nale making up his code as he needs it to be or honestly i think it would fit odium picking gav as the champion too. also the duel from words of radiance.
"How does it feel to reach the line that no one ever got to cross?
Does it make you a God now?"
- Dalinar obtaning Honor, and the moments the heralds became the heralds too and how it eventually messed with them having even some of them think they've become a god.
"Every sin will be forgiven
If you lay down your weapons to the ground"
- Szeth laying down his weapon and disbanding the coup after he found out his dad is the bondsmith keeper. even the way the lyric is sung gives off vibe of betrayal.
I had this in my head for the longest damn time. always felt a bit awkward about posting about it lol. now that I have finished the books i just couldn't stop thinking about them and had to post it.
as of my thoughts:
I have been an avid reader when i was a kid and at some point I just stopped, ten years later i decided it might be time to give it another shot, read the first volume of lord of the mysteries and due to how long it was i got put off and thought reading might just not be for me. a year later i picked up mistborn after seeing a random tiktok abbout it and I haven't been the same since. read the trilogy then are 2 then i read the whole red rising and then i just finished the stormlight and all it's novella and even warbreaker and the mistborn novellas.
I know that out of most people who read this i might be one of the least knowledgeable but I'm proud of myself for reading such a massive series and excited for whats to come. thank you brandon for this amazing opportunity to enjoy your creativity and what years of hard work can bear as results. onto Elantris and thanks for reading this stupidly long post.
