Rayneo IO - My thoughts
I'm disappointed. Maybe my expectations are set too high or I misunderstood the purpose of these things...I'm just borderline awestruck at the fact their feature set effectively ends at the dashboard; voice recording, translation, teleprompter and captioning.
My assumption was that since Gemini was present that we would have some option to tie our personal Gemini account to the glasses and send messages, emails, control smart home devices, etc... things I can do with my Google home, personal vehicle and phone, which are all equipped with Gemini. But here it simply exists for queries and it's not even great for giving responses, like I asked about a football game score and all it would do is acknowledge the game is happening and not even give me a score. Can't set a timer, no proper reminders, not even true email inbox queries...what's the point?
On top of this, the glasses come extremely region locked and frankly for an average user, finding the setting to change region, time and temperature readouts would be a chore. Plus the voice assistant just flat out can't change its readouts from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
Aside from features, I can't get a comfortable projection on these. On the closest setting, I'm losing the corners. On the mid and furthest setting, I feel like I'm almost crossing my eyes to see the projection. The sensitivity of the head tilt setting isn't great, sometimes it just doesn't react and other times like when driving, it just sets off the HUD all the time. The voice recognition is just God awful- I have to use 'Ok, Rayneo' because 'Hey, Rayneo' just never reacts at all and even then it's 50/50 on if the pop up for voice commands appears. Lastly, not having an OEM sunglasses clip just sucks, I bought a third party one, but it's meh.
All in all this feels like a hardcore beta product just to be a 'us too' in the market. Half baked features mixed with solid hardware is still a half baked product in my eyes. I hate returning things I already paid for, but I am strongly compelled to return these.
