Emily Blunt’s veneers are a good example of what to avoid

I noticed Emily Blunt’s new veneers, and it is frustrating to see celebrities keep getting and unconsciously promoting work like this.

The main problems are visible in the shape, color, and side profile:

  • The front teeth look too wide and rectangular.
  • The veneers are almost identical in length and shape, so the smile has lost its natural variation.
  • The color looks flat and opaque instead of having enamel-like depth.
  • The edges have very little translucency.
  • The surfaces look overly smooth and uniform, without much natural texture.
  • From the side, the teeth appear bulky and pushed forward.
  • The smile looks less balanced with her lips and face than her original teeth did.

Good veneers should not simply be white and straight. Look for subtle differences between teeth, softer contours, realistic surface texture, some translucency near the edges, natural color variation, and a side profile that does not look thick or protrusive.

People should also test temporary veneers in daylight, warm indoor light, bright white light, flash photos, video, and from the side before approving the final work. Teeth can look fine under dental office lighting and completely different in real life.

It is sad that celebrities keep normalizing this style without realizing it, because people assume expensive or famous means good. There should be better cosmetic dentistry and plastic surgery matchmakers working with celebrities - people who independently assess the doctor’s work, aesthetic judgment, and consistency instead of relying on reputation, social media, or celebrity status.

Fluoride works. But five compounds have RCT data and each does something fluoride can't.

Veneer owners first

The porcelain won't scratch. The bonding composite at the margin will. Peroxide weakens the bonding cement. Baking soda and charcoal are too abrasive. SLS damages gum tissue at the seal. All five below are low-abrasion and SLS-free.
