I got hit with the knock on the door and papers served.. This is all new to me. Super long story short, I had a great credit score for awhile (around 740) and life happened, a few bad mistakes, and next thing you know my balance was sent to collections for 18k.
I will be getting a lump sum of money and will be able to negotiate a one time pay off for half or so of this (recommendations) but I don’t know exactly when I will be getting that money. Could be within the next month, could be 4 months. But that is my plan. This has been my plan, I just am kinda waiting since my income right now I need for the rest of my expenses.
This letter is intimidating to me, because they are acting like they want to take me to court etc. I have read on this subreddit before about this stuff and now it is happening to me. It basically states that they need a “written response” within 20 days of being served this paper.
What should I do? What’s the best move? Do I just tell them my situation and my plan? I do want them to know that I plan to pay it off, but I don’t want to say anything that they could use against me OR don’t want them thinking that I don’t plan to pay anything at all.
Any help is truly appreciated. I can’t wait to get this cleared, I will never get into this predicament again.
