Educational Computer/Video Games for Young Children (3-6)?
TLDR: Suggestions for good educational video games, old and new, for twin 3.5 year-old boys who already know how to read and write. Low stimulation preferable.
So I have twin sons who are just over 3.5 years old. Both already know how to read and write, and my sister regularly jokes that their handwriting is already better than hers. They know phonics and shapes, are counting to 150, and are reading 1st-grade books. We're also already getting some basic math in, too.
We have not given them unfettered access to tablets (to them, a "tablet" is their little drawing doodle tablets). We have one, but it is brought out VERY sparingly (like maybe once a month), and the only thing on it is a drawing app and ABC Mouse, which they love. But that being said, my husband and I are big gamers, and I am big into retro gaming and have a whole CD collection of the old educational games my parents bought for ME in the 90s. I wanted to make a list of educational games that would be good for 3-6-year-olds for me to get them.
Platforms we have access to include: Android phones/tablets, PCs, Nintendo Switch, XBox Series X, Steam Deck, and Nintendo 2DS XL.
Here is a list of PC Games I've already begun putting together, but most of them are late-90s to early 2000s games;
- Disney Animated Storybooks (Winnie the Pooh, 101 Dalmations, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, etc)
- Disney Activity Centers (Toy Story, Lion King, etc)
- Math Blaster Jr
- Reading Blaster Jr
- JumpStart (Pre-K to 1st-Grade)
- Blue's Clues games
- Clifford Games
- Magic School Bus Games
- Arthur Games
- Spy Fox
- Pajama Sam
- Putt-Putt
- Freddi Fish
- Carmen Sandiego
Apps:
- ABC Mouse
- PBS Kids
- DuoLingo ABC
- LingoKids
- Vooks
Anything else you remember loving that I could add to the list?
