I have a new medical condition (type 1 diabetes) I'm still learning how to describe better in Spanish. Any help appreciated!
I know this is an odly specific scenario, but I could definitely use all the help I can get.
Unfortunately, I had some bad luck over the holidays and became a type 1 diabetic. This has created a lot of challenges in my life, and in particular, I could really benefit from knowing words and phrases relevant to my condition. This would be helpful so that I can better communicate my needs to people, especially in urgent situations. It's also just nice knowing how to describe my condition in better detail to others who know me and want to know more about my condition.
So far, I'm a bit limited in what I can describe, since a lot of my vocabulary is more general than this particular scenario. I have figured out a couple basic descriptions of my condition (por ejemplo: "soy diabético," "tengo diabetes tipo uno," "insulina," ) and I can use my general vocabulary to explain when I need sugar quickly, or to describe a general sense of urgency. I've been describing blood sugar as "azúcar de sangre" to friends and co-workers, but I'm not even sure if I'm using the right phrase or if I'm translating that too literally.
I also don't know how to say that my blood sugar is high/low. I could also benefit from knowing how to describe potential symptoms of hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia(high blood sugar). I also use an insulin pump, which I have been describing as "una máquina de insulina" and I'm not sure if this is the best way of describing it.
In general as well, I like being able to explain how my condition works (in both English and in Spanish). It would be nice to know how to describe dosing to people as well.
Honestly, I am just looking for as many useful words and phrases for my condition as possible. I don't always trust the translations I get from translators/dictionaries when it comes to describing important details of my medical condition.
I know this is a lot of stuff. My whole experience with this condition has been a lot and I really appreciate the help!
TLDR: I want as many useful words/phrases to describe my Type 1 diabetes as possible for safety and educational reasons
