Making new guylines (xmid 2)

Making new guylines (xmid 2)

Hi Durston heads! So I want to make some new guylines for the more stormier conditions and was thinking of leaving these permanently on my x mid 2. Does anyone have any tips on how to :

- A - attach to the tent
- B - how to use these tensioners
- C - And best knots to use

Thanks !

Durston Xmid 2 stands up!

Solo wild camp on Slieve Doan in the Mourne Mountains (Co. Down) this week.

Walked in past Lough Shannagh, found a flattish patch between the tors near the top, and got the X-Mid 2 up for its first proper outing.

Beautiful evening — cooked a meal, watched the sun go down, felt very smug about the pitch. Then about an hour after I zipped up, the wind arrived. The morning forecast had said ~20mph gusts; the updated one I pulled up in the tent said 60. It hadn't been forecast at all when I set off.

By half midnight it was slamming the ridge and felt like a hurricane up there.

Here's the thing though — the tent itself never felt like it was going to fail.

Loud and flappy, absolutely (sldouble wall trekking-pole tent, what do you expect), but the structure held, poles stayed seated, pegs stayed in. No sag, no collapse.

I still packed up and came off the hill in the dark. Not because the Durston was losing — because the forecast was still climbing and I wasn't willing to gamble a brand-new tent (or a snapped trekking pole on an exposed top) on riding out weather that was still building. Descended carefully, couple of km back to the stile, out.

No regrets on the call. Genuinely more impressed with the tent after that than I was before it. Curious how others have found the X-Mid 2 in real wind — and whether you'd have stuck it out or bailed.

Full write-up + the video (you can hear how mental it got) here if anyone wants it:

Durston X-Mid 2 vs Storm-Force Winds: A Brutal Night on Slieve Doan

Did a wild camp on Slieve Doan in the Mourne Mountains (Co. Down) this week.

Here's the thing though — the tent itself never felt like it was going to fail.

Loud and flappy, absolutely (double wall trekking-pole tent, what do you expect), but the structure held, poles stayed seated, pegs stayed in. No sag, no collapse. Performed really well.

First mountain pitch

Here is the x mid 2 on Slieve Doan in the mourne mountains in Northern Ireland. Unfortunately I had to abandon the camp as the winds got progressively stronger ( up to 70 mph ) but I have to say it didn’t fail or collapse! ( even in constant 50mph winds )

Question for dan if he is around - I noticed some guy points / loops on the vents are they or can they be used as guy points too?

I ordered the Durston x mid 2 solid

After much deliberation I ordered the xmid 2 solid as I live in Ireland, the solid was the obvious choice - thank you to Dan for his advice - if you can exopodite that order it would be much appreciated I will love you forever Dan! :)

Durston Xmid 2 vs Nortent Vern 1 pc

Hi Durston heads!

I have the Nortent vern1 pc. Living in Ireland it rains a fair bit and I’ve noticed any time I’m out in the v1pc when it gets wet the cold stays inside the tent. Being single walled I suppose that’s a risk. I’m really interested in the Durston x mid pro - I think the air wouldn’t be as damp and cold as there is a lot of airflow - anyone have any thoughts?
