Arizona to Tennessee - Cold feet

I currently live in Northern Arizona (Kingman, specifically), and my family has been seriously considering a move to East Tennessee, anywhere from the Chattanooga/Soddy-Daisy area up through Kingsport. We’ve visited and absolutely loved it, but because it’s so different from what we’re used to, I’m worried there may be things we’re not considering.

We love the outdoors and greenery, which both states offer, but the quick access to water and the significantly higher annual rainfall in East Tennessee really stand out to us. The job market also looks appealing. Still, as the title suggests, we’ve got cold feet. With four kids, I’m trying to make sure all my ducks are in a row before taking the leap. Work isn’t a major concern, I can work remotely for several months if needed and we plan to rent for the first year.

My question is mainly for people who have moved to East Tennessee from the desert Southwest.

What were the biggest improvements to your overall quality of life? Any regrets? Anything you wish you had known beforehand?

I feel like I’ve done every online search and AI breakdown possible, and now I’d really like to hear from people who have actually made a similar move.

For context, I’ve spent the last 30 years in Arizona. Aside from the ongoing water concerns here, I’m ready to leave behind the brutal summers and finally enjoy some of my hobbies like fishing and gardening without driving 50+ miles or battling extreme heat and dry weather.
