Caught them completely by surprised and even managed to captured a couple before the rest retreated toward the Verona Loop. Bro what the actual fuck? I think it’s best to approach the Mule Shoe from the Union line so you really get a feel for what it was like to all out attack the vulnerable position 162 years ago today. Those ravines really provide the only protection up till about 100-150 yards of confederate earthworks (last photo). After that, you had to charge the positions through musket fire and if you got lucky then engage in fierce hand to hand combat for 18 hours. Watching the slaughter from this ridge would’ve made me sick.
