Is it ok to paint the pieces for tournaments or no?

My kids(5 &7) came to me and said they wanna get into beyblade, after talking to my wife I guess we're all getting into beyblade. I wanna get wizard or shark for myself but I wanna know if the different color tops of beyblade are different beyblades? Keel shark 1-60q for example compared to keel shark 3-60lf. Are the tops the exact same just a different color? Same with wizards wand. What arena is recommended for home play? There seems to be a lot of options for x arenas. Are box stores a good place to get beyblades or should I grab them online? I haven't played since I was like 9 and I'm currently 32 lol so everything is way different

I'm not very knowledgeable with beyblades at all. I say a short of a beyblade that had the ability to select which mode you wanted to drop it in with. I believe there was 3 different modes and you would twist it to select the mode. It was a x arena. I wanna say the modes where attack, defense, maybe unpredictable mode? Or maybe a stamina mode? I can't remember the color of the beyblade at all.

Idk but it looked cool and made me wanna look into beyblades more.
