At least I wasn’t there to witness it happen [TW: transphobia, assault]

On Saturday, my brother’s gf had a birthday party where everyone wore silly wigs and went out to a pub. According to her, a random man who wasn’t a part of the party approached one of her friends and ripped off her wig before saying stuff like “I don’t even know if you’re a man or a woman” and “You shouldn’t be dressing like this”. Before my brother’s gf’s friend had a chance to properly respond, the man headbutted her so hard that her nose got fractured. Fortunately, he was arrested that night and permanently banned from the pub. From what I know, the woman who got attacked is still in hospital and is hoping to press charges against him.

I know it shouldn’t be bothering me personally that much, especially since I wasn’t even there, but the fact that a cis woman got randomly assaulted just because she got mistaken for being trans makes me realise that I’m probably not as safe as I thought I was.
