Community Help problem -- need brilliant creative thinking!
Hey ENFP's! So I've had an issue come up at my work a few times and Im looking for some mad robin williams level of brilliant to solve this patter that plays out in emergency serives where LE collaborates with Social workers-- if you're inspired I'd love to know what you'd do or say, especially! Anything you write might actually help solve this problem. So this is about crisis response work and individuals who are suffering from paranoia and dellusions. We have a number of people who will -- due to their dellusions or altered state of thinking/ thought disorders (however you want to call it) call 911 frequently. It comes a huge issue for our LE in responding because they're not sure what to do with it and they at best are patient but frustrated. I've seen this call in my work come up multiple times. It's always a little different:
- i.e I'm being stalked by a group of gangs and I'm calling 911 but the police wont take me seriously! I've gone as far as to call the FBI even.
2 i.e I'm being stalked by the FBI and I need help!
I've always tried to join with the fantasy in some way and redirect by finding another team. So it sounds a little like: you can call for help but it has to be this number ###-####. how I offer that takes some times because if you come out of the gate saying it you might get lead with parnoia. So I try to build some rapport first and they say hey would you be up for working with this team called GRACE (for example) they would come out on you often and at least that way if the gangs came back you'd know someone who knows about them.
an issue i've had with this solution is that often, depending on the state of mind they either tell me to F off. And that they needed a police officer and the police really need to start doing their job. or they agree to call the other number or join the other service "GRACE" (RN and social worker) but then dont follow through. It's hard because you never know if you do connect if they'll just slip back into paranoia and maybe you become a part of their thinking. i.e that lady was deff working with the FBI. ....
Anyways if anyone of your brilliant, creative minds want to help what you say may actually end up helping a city or county as I'll try it next time I'm out meeting these kinds of calls.
