Build:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M AORUS Elite AX
GPU: PNY RTX 5070 Ti (also tested with RTX 5090, same issue)
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 32GB (2x16) 6000 MT/s CL30 (EXPO)
Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus (NVMe)
PSU: Corsair SF1000
OS: Windows 11 (fresh install)
Problem:
Games will:
- launch normally
- run briefly
- start dropping frames and stuttering
- then crash
This happens across multiple games and benchmarks.
Error Messages:

Diablo 4:
Graphics initialization failed. Please ensure that your drivers are up to date and no other 3D applications or games are running.
Key Observations:
- GPUs work fine in another system
- Points away from GPU
. I also tried the power cable that came with the GPU, no luck.
What I’ve Tried:
Drivers and Software:
- DDU clean uninstall and reinstall NVIDIA drivers
- Installed drivers manually, clean install, graphics + PhysX only, no NVIDIA App
- Installed AMD chipset drivers from AMD website
- Disabled HAGS
- Disabled overlays including MSI Afterburner and Discord
- Disabled PCIe Link State Power Management
BIOS and Hardware:
- Set PCIe slot to Gen 4
- Disabled Resizable BAR
- Reseated GPU
- Reseated GPU power cables
- Disabled iGPU
Testing and Isolation:
- Ran GPU benchmark in another system and GPU works fine
- Confirms not GPU or cable
OS-Level:
- Ran sfc /scannow
- Ran DISM repair
- Performed full clean Windows install using USB and wiped all partitions
- Reinstalled in order:
- Windows Update
- AMD chipset
- NVIDIA driver
Still crashes on fresh OS
Additional Testing:
- Disabled EXPO and ran RAM at default JEDEC speeds
- Issue still persists with EXPO off
Current Status:
- Fresh Windows install
- Minimal drivers only
- No extra software installed
- Still getting DXGI device removed or suspended crashes
Question:
At this point I’ve ruled out:
- GPU
- drivers
- OS install
- EXPO RAM instability
- basic BIOS settings
What else could cause DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887A0005) across multiple GPUs and a fresh OS?
Possible suspects I’m considering:
- motherboard PCIe slot or board issue
- CPU or memory controller issue
- PSU transient behavior
Any ideas appreciated. I feel like I’ve eliminated most obvious causes, but something is still unstable at a low level.
