People treating having a good memory as suspicious

A few people at work were talking about middle names, and someone asked me mine. I told them, then said to the person who asked me "yours is Claire, right?" She made a face. "And how do you know THAT?" She said, like I'd done something suspicious. I know because you told me! Like, two or three weeks ago! We've actually all had this middle name conversation before.

This is all things pretty minor, but it's an example of something I encounter fairly often, and it drives me nuts.

[LES] Oscar Wilde only ever has two jokes and I hate them both

Joke 1: The unexpected answer "Why Lord Cludginton, I'm sorry to see your book received poor reviews." "I am delighted to hear it, for to have one's books be poorly reviewed is the surest sign that they are good!"

Joke 2: The paradox. "Sir Cludgwix, would you like to have eggs with your breakfast?" "My dear lady, there is only one thing worse than having eggs with ones breakfast... and that is not having eggs with ones breakfast."

Tee fucking hee. Listen Oscar, it's cute the first time, but by the three hundred'th time I'm sick of it. And frankly this also goes to you Noel Coward, or all the UK "wits" I'm supposed to idolize.

Ramsay Macdonald was reviled by many Labour Party members and politicians after forming a mostly Conservative National Government. Was he admired by Conservatives, or did they take him as a bit of a dupe?
