StreamBlock (Open Source Twitch, Kick & YouTube Adblocker) – Looking for Feedback

Hi everyone,

I've been working on an open-source browser extension called StreamBlock and I'd love to get some feedback from people who regularly use Twitch and YouTube.

The project originally started because I was frustrated with how Twitch ads are handled. Many ad blockers either stop working after a while or simply replace ads with a black screen until the stream comes back.

StreamBlock takes a different approach. During Twitch ad breaks, it automatically switches to an ad-free backup stream and returns to the main stream as soon as the ads are over, so you can keep watching instead of waiting through a black screen.

Current features

  • Twitch ad blocking
  • YouTube ad blocking
  • Tracker blocking
  • Open source
  • Free to use
  • No account required

The extension is still in beta, so I'm mainly looking for feedback on stability and compatibility.

If you're interested, I'd also appreciate it if you checked out the GitHub repository. It contains the full source code, contribution history, and the open-source projects StreamBlock builds upon.

I'd especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Reliability
  • CPU and RAM usage
  • Twitch compatibility
  • Conflicts with other extensions
  • Bugs or edge cases
  • General user experience

I'm also happy to answer any technical questions or discuss how the extension works internally.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

StreamBlock (Open Source) – Looking for Feedback

I've been working on an open-source browser extension called StreamBlock.

The original goal was solving a problem I kept running into on Twitch: most ad blockers either stop working or replace ads with a black screen while you wait for the stream to return.

StreamBlock uses a different approach. During Twitch ad breaks, it switches to an ad-free backup stream and automatically returns to the main stream when the ad break ends, so you can keep watching instead of staring at a black screen.

Current features:

  • Twitch ad blocking
  • YouTube ad blocking

I Built a open-source Twitch ad blocker that avoids Twitch's black screen

After Twitch started getting more aggressive with ads, most blockers ended up doing the same thing:

Ad startsblack screenwaitstream comes back. Or it doesnt block it at all.

I hated that experience, so I built StreamBlock.

Instead of showing the black screen, it switches to an ad-free backup stream during the ad break and jumps back automatically when the ad ends. Not a other stream, the same.

It also blocks YouTube ads and removes trackers, but Twitch was the original reason I built it.

  • Free
  • Open source
  • No account
  • Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave & Opera
