I’m a mom of a 10-year-old (4th grade), and I’m trying to figure out if I’m making the right decision about pulling her out of school with about 6 weeks left in the year.
Her class has 30+ students with one teacher, and there have been ongoing behavior issues throughout the year that have made it hard for her to focus. There’s been a lot of “kid drama,” distractions, and a general lack of structure in the classroom.
Recently, a boy in her class made a “you’re dead” comment to her while mimicking a gun gesture. This really crossed a line for me, especially because it’s not the first incident involving inappropriate behavior from classmates.
There have also been previous social issues earlier in the year involving another student (a girl in her friend group), where things became emotionally messy and uncomfortable for my daughter.
My biggest concern is her safety and ability to focus, especially during testing. Even if the school puts some measures in place, I still feel uneasy about less structured times like recess and the overall classroom environment.
I’m seriously considering pulling her out and placing her in our designated homeschool option for the remainder of the year, but I’m unsure if this is the right move this late in the school year.
Am I overreacting, or is this a reasonable decision given the pattern of issues and environment?
