First ever 10km run!
Over the past weekend I participated in my first ever race doing the 5km event. I finished the 5km with a time of 29:23 which I was so proud of! Now I am working towards competing in the 10km race coming up in the fall
My background is that I have never enjoyed running, I always found it extremely hard and not rewarding. I’ve also been told many times that I don’t have a runners build (large thighs, very short legs), which I think has definitely contributed to my past attitude towards running. A year ago I got up and decided I wanted to see if I could run 5km, I completed the run in 43:22 and I was so proud! Over the past year I’ve been working hard towards my 5km, including doing 75 this year and losing 35lbs! I’ve started really enjoying running and seeing the improvement in my overall health has added to this enjoyment for sure!
My new goal is to be able to improve my 10km run, I am also concerned about my very high heart rate and am looking for some advice on how to improve my cardiac function while still working towards improving my time. I’ve heard of zone 2 training but don’t know too much about it, I feel like for me if I was in zone 2 I wouldn’t be running I’d be quickly walking, is this the goal?
So thankful for all these amazing Reddit communities and looking forward to hearing from this community!
