Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand how things work in practice with the “Deutsch Bonus” in Bavaria, and I would really appreciate some real experiences.
My child has the following grades in the Übertrittszeugnis:
Math: 2
HSU: 3
German: 4
→ Average: 3.0
Because my child has been in Germany for less than 3 years, I understand that the Deutsch Bonus applies, meaning up to 3.33 should still allow entry to Gymnasium.
Also, on the Übertrittszeugnis, it is explicitly stated that he is:
geeignet für Realschule
geeignet für Gymnasium
So officially, he is considered suitable for both.
Still, I’m wondering how this works in reality.
Did anyone have a similar case (good grades except German)?
Did the Gymnasium accept without problems?
Or did they still push towards Realschule?
How strict are schools when checking if the lower German grade is really due to language?
Also, if your child actually went to Gymnasium with a similar profile:
How was the transition in year 5?
Was the German level a big issue?
I’m especially interested in experiences in Bavaria, but input from other states is also welcome.
