So to start I drive a Dodge Ram 1500 uhh v8

One big mistake I've made in the 3 years I was driving it was not changing the Transmission Fluid partially cuz I assumed it would tell me too like it does for Oil right whatever

So when I would drive it it would be fine unless I was in reverse or if the vehicle was shifting down

In reverse I would hear a continuous clack as I went back

Next when the truck would shift down it would make a continuous like whirring noise which worsened into like a CCRRAAAA-AA-AA-AA type sound which is when I decided OK I needa stop driving it

Now I haven't driven it in awhile but NOW, while stationary, when I even just put it to reverse it does that CRAAA-AA--A-AAA-AA type sound without even moving it which it didn't do before

It sound fine while not moving in P, N, and D

Also when I roll the vehicle in neutral I hear a continuous clack as I move it whether forward or backward

Now I ain't no car nerd or nothing I've only ever replaced my own battery and tail light but I feel with my common knowledge I'm assuming it's the transmission that fucked correct? I found a junkyard with one for like $400 and a friend of mine said he'd get me the part and install it for me free(dw I will make sure he is paid😭) but am I correct that the transmission is the issue and as long as I replace it and don't ignore the transmission fluid like a idiot then I'll be fine yes? Please let me know! Edit: in case my engine ever comes into question when I'm in park and I rev it, it sounds perfectly normal so I immediately assumed the problem had nothing to do with it especially since I obviously hadn't changed the transmission fluid I think it's rather obvious but again I ain't no pro sooo
