How to fill the slot between Driver and 5 Hybrid (high handicap)
Evening all, as a mid-high handicapper, I carry my driver and then a 5 hybrid (lifesaver in many of the situations I find myself in). I rarely hit driver, if ever, so often go 5H off the tee - only because it's way more forgiving and I would rather give up distance in place of getting on the fairway.
I have a quite old X series Callaway Driver, with a longer flex shaft, which is too long for me and really exacerbates my inconsistent swing, so I am in two minds about either upgrading (maybe Sim2 Max etc.) or getting a club that fills the gap in between, for a bit more distance but can be hit off the fairway from 200 yards out.
7 wood are a bit of a pain in the ass to find in the U.K. for relatively cheap (still £200 used for a decent condition one) so for me it's a toss up price wise between new (but used) driver or the extra club. The lowest iron I usually hit is a 6, 5 rarely so I need to close the gap In distance between the top of the bag and my irons. Would it at all be worth getting a 3-5 wood instead?
For a mid-high handicapper, what should be the priority?
