Floating Shelves with LED

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice/thoughts on my new project. I’ve bought 3 new shelves for my daughter’s bedroom. I’d love to add some LED lighting but I’m somewhat put off by the task ahead, and would like advice.

The design (via ChatGPT) and the shelves are shown.

In an ideal world, I’d like to have 3 LED strips that can be controlled via a remote (and best case scenario are smart LEDs). There would be no cables on show.

The problem I have is I know this won’t be simple. I’ve tried to find battery powered LEDs but all roads keep leading to COB LED Lights.

The issue I have is I did want it to be minimal mess, but it looks like some chasing of the wall is going to be required. The wall is plasterboard by the way. I also don’t know if my shelves are fit for purpose.

On the current shelves I’m not sure if I could get away with putting the lights in option 1 or I’m best to go option 2? Also, can I get away with no diffuser on COB lights?

Would I need to router the channel for the LED?

What LEDs are best to use?

Basically. I need advice from the experts on what you’d recommend, and how you would go about it if you’re project.

My daughter is 4 but I feel the shelves/lights will grow with her so it’s worth putting in the extra effort

Office Internet Speeds

Hi,

I'm looking to get a bit of help with how to get the best speeds of internet in my office. ChatGPT has basically confirmed what I think, but I'd rather check with people who actually know.

I have Virgin Gig1 internet and have a couple pods dotted around my house. The biggest problem (especially recently) is my WiFi is struggling in my office, which is located in my garage. I'll be decorating my hallway soon which is where my hub is located, so this should give me the perfect opportunity to run an ethernet under the floor, through a cupboard and out of the house - into the garage.

I’ve mocked up a bit of a plan on how my wiring would go.

- You’ll see in the entrance hall my hub is located on the right wall.
- I’d then plan to go straight across under the flooring, into an understairs storage cupboard.
- I’d then go through an internal wall into the Storage cupboard.
- From there, my Ethernet will go out the external wall, under the pre dug out concrete floor and into my garage.
- My garage is half storage and half office. It would run along the storage side of my office wall to the left corner through the wall to my office.
- I'd then trunk the cable along the left side wall to the far away wall
- I’d then look to have the splitter on the far away wall as that’s where my desk and electrical equipment are located.

I would be running a Cat6 External Ethernet from my Virgin Hub, then connecting that into a 5-port gigabit switch in my office.

Does this sound like the sensible solution? Are there any future proofing things you would do or enhancements that would give me the best speeds in my office (and around my house)?

Thanks
