How do NYPD officers generally rank the different units in terms of prestige and respect, such as Detectives, ESU, Critical Response Command, and becoming a supervisor?

I currently work in highway response so im interested in that path.

Whats the arc for someone that goes into highway patrol? Do they finish their career there?

Do they branch out to other units? Detective etc?

Is highway patrol hard to get into? Is it a desirable unit? Are the hours and operation similar to regular patrol? How soon can i join?

Also does NYPD allow for you to ask permission to work paid details (stores, banks, etc) before probation is up?

Will this hurt me in the process? Id rather be an officer but im almost at the end of my process for corrections so ill be in the academy while processing for nypd.

Will the tenure at corrections be an issue?

When i was 20 i worked at a police department as a civilian and went to an unrelated police academy on my own dime. I was late and made up an excuse, they called my job told them i lied and an investigation was opened, i resigned because of it.

This was over 12 years ago, clean drug and criminal history.

Based on your experiences, will nypd immediately dq me for this? What should i expect if i apply?
