24 Grand Cherokee 4xe – recurring electrical issues, backordered parts, NCDS arbitration coming up. Looking for advice.

Good morning,

I leased a 2024 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe in April 2025. I wanted a vehicle that was a plug in hybrid, could tow, was comfy for the family, and could do light off-roading. I have a 99 XJ for the heavier trails. Unfortunately, the vehicle has had recurring electrical and reliability issues ever since I got it. I actually really like the vehicle when it works, but at this point my family and I have completely lost confidence in it.

Issues have included:

  • Regular no-start / dead battery events requiring a jump. Battery replaced in 12/25 by dealership. It is very surreal to be jumping my 2024 $65k 4xe with my 1999 $4k XJ.
  • Vehicle becoming completely unresponsive after sitting outside overnight in damp or mountain conditions
  • “SOS Call unavailable. Please visit an authorized dealer.” warning every startup recently.
  • Multiple recalls, including the fire-risk advisory requiring me to park outside for a few months and the sand casting scare.

The weirdest part is the vehicle often becomes unresponsive after overnight condensation/moisture exposure. My dog sleeps in the back of the Jeep overnight when we're camping and last Fall he was trapped in the back because the locks wouldn’t respond and I had to use the manual key, which triggered the alarm that I couldn’t shut off because the Jeep was completely unresponsive. This did not make me very popular at the campground. I now just leave it unlocked overnight if I'm parking it outside because it usually won't respond until it warms up outside and dries off.

The Jeep is currently back at the dealership AGAIN. They said the overhead console is throwing codes (thus the SOS error) and has a parasitic draw so the battery will keep dying. The part is back ordered with an estimated arrival of June 8th.

I've asked if I can just end the lease and walk away. I only have 11 months left on it. I've connected with Stellantis directly. They are telling me only the dealership can take the lease back, while the dealership says only Stellantis can authorize any kind of lease buyback/termination assistance. So I’m basically stuck in the middle while the vehicle sits at the dealer waiting for parts and I'm still paying for it.

I filed an National Center for Dispute Settlement (NCDS) arbitration claim and my hearing is June 10. I have all the documentation and communication saved. I’m not looking for a giant payout or punitive damages or anything like that. Honestly, I just want out of the lease without taking a huge financial hit on a vehicle that has become unreliable.

Has anyone here gone through NCDS arbitration with Jeep/Stellantis? Any advice on:

  • what helped your case
  • what hurt your case
  • whether Stellantis settled beforehand
  • whether repeated electrical/no-start issues carried weight
  • whether backordered parts and no real repair ETA mattered

Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve been through this process.

Hello! I have an interesting scenario that you all may be able to impart some wisdom on / make fun of me for.

The situation in which I find myself is this: I leased a 2024 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe in April of 2025 and got a screaming deal on it because they were desperate to get it off the lot. $477 a month with $3k down. Only 5000 miles per year but my partner and I both worked from home at the time so that was fine. A year later we're only at 4,500 miles.

The issue is that my partner now has to go downtown multiple times per week for her new job and she has to park in an old garage that is difficult to navigate in the 4xe. We also have a Volvo S60 recharge lease that's ending in July. Our plan had been to turn in the S60 in July, ride out the 4xe lease, and then get something else next April. We also have a 99 Jeep XJ that is an absolute tank for bad weather, camping, large dog transport, and zombie apocalypses.

The 4xe is turning into kind of a nightmare, though. The battery has died multiple times and has been replaced once. I've had to jump it multiple times. It does this totally bizarre thing where if it's parked outside and it rains and/or there's condensation on the vehicle in the morning it will NOT respond until the sun heats it up and it's dry. It has happened multiple times while camping, and now I just leave it unlocked overnight when we're in the mountains so I can open the doors in the morning while it's dead.

It was in the shop this week and the dealership said that the overhead console is pulling a draw somehow and it's throwing codes but the part is not available and on back order with no ETA, so it will just keep happening. I called both Stellantis and Jeep and they both told me I'm stuck with the lease and it will get fixed at some point. The buyout for the lease is about $5k plus a $400 early cancellation fee. We are way underwater on it as the purchase price is $48k but the market value is only about $37k.

My partner is saying she does not trust the Jeep anymore, and I'm the one who actually chose it, so now she wants to bail on the 4xe and lease an EX30 for a commuter car. A dealership here in Denver is offering us a top of the line new twin motor ultra with a $2,500 dealer discount and a $7,250 manufacturer rebate with 7,500 miles per year at roughly $600 per month with $3k down for 36 months. They'd let us out of our last two S60 lease payments, as well.

If anyone has advice on how to navigate this, I'm all ears. We find ourselves in an odd position where we both got new jobs in the last few months and so having to split the $5k loss for the lease really isn't a huge deal (which sounds insane considering I've been broke my whole life). I don't think we are allowed transfer the lease to another person with Stellantis. I don't know if we could argue the 4xe is a "lemon." Thanks in advance.
