The Probe Feeder (≖ ͜ʖ≖)

Hello explorers 👋

The Probe Feeder was one of the first items whose development helped define the visual style of UNPSC devices.

In ITR1, probes were made from simple, repurposed objects: cartridge cases and a basic pouch. To emphasize how much the Committee’s position had changed between the two games, we wanted the new Probe Feeder to look less improvised and handmade, and more like something deliberately designed and mass-produced.

At the same time, its function meant that it still needed to look inexpensive to manufacture. That’s why it’s made of plastic and has a simple construction, while clearly being designed for comfortable handling and use.

https://preview.redd.it/e9dcgirjk8fh1.jpg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9821837b79d87c6ca1397f27f7d680606327a86

During the early stages, we also considered making the Probe Feeder a rigid, “tacticool” pouch. Ultimately, however, we decided that a purpose-built plastic device suited its function better.

https://preview.redd.it/kazft67rk8fh1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=b88ce70fa3e5f77f804fb40fe377b4002e9aaf6e

The probe itself also needed to look simple enough to be a mass-produced, single-use consumable, while still clearly appearing purpose-built.

We therefore explored simple and practical, but visually distinctive shapes. We also considered how the body of the probe would connect to the ribbon and how the ribbon would wrap around it.

https://preview.redd.it/svlt740wk8fh1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=dd78138805f44ede57e8cd24c43a6148f1372ef9

We changed the ribbon from orange to blue, both to distinguish the new probes from those in ITR1 and to keep them consistent with the Committee’s new visual identity.

We decided against adding patterns or secondary colors because they would barely be visible in practice and would only create unnecessary visual noise.

Co-op & Range Update ━╤デ╦︻(▀̿̿ĺ̯̿̿▀̿ ̿)━╤デ╦︻(▀̿̿ĺ̯̿̿▀̿ ̿)

IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • After installing the update, we strongly recommend disabling all mods before launching the game. Using outdated or incompatible mods may cause errors, crashes, or other unexpected issues.
  • If you played the beta version, make sure to move your save files from %Documents%/My Games/IntoTheRadius2-Beta to %Documents%/My Games/IntoTheRadius2 so you can continue your progress.
  • This update includes both the G3 rifle, which was already available in the beta, and the MP5 SMG, the weapon we teased in the latest Dev Diary and originally planned for a later patch.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • [Co-op] Clients may sometimes appear under the maze area in Kalasaare Village after teleporting there from the Pechorsk Outskirts portal.
  • [Co-op] Modular weapon stats may display incorrectly for Clients in the item info window.

KEY FEATURES

Four-player Co-op. Co-op has been expanded from two to four players. After completing the tutorial mission, you can host a co-op session and invite friends directly from Steam. Explore the Radius with more friends, coordinate your movements, share supplies, and cover each other as you push deeper into the unknown.

To make communication easier, we’ve also added a walkie-talkie feature. Use it to stay in touch with your team, call out enemy positions, warn each other about danger, or regroup when you lose sight of one another in the field.

Please note that co-op difficulty does not scale with party size. If you are playing with 3 or 4 players, we recommend adjusting the difficulty settings manually depending on your preference. To make this easier, we’ve updated the co-op game setup UI with clearer player count and difficulty options, including quick presets and access to custom difficulty settings. These settings can also be changed in an ongoing game, although some changes will only take effect after the next Tide.

Shooting Range. A new Shooting Range is now available through the Supply Depot. Test weapons before buying them, experiment with attachments and parts, and get a feel for how each setup performs in the field.

We’ve also added the Kill House, which can be played solo or with friends.

In addition, we’ve introduced Magazine Loading Devices.

Automated loaders are available in the Shooting Range and Supply Depot, where they can quickly load magazines with your choice of UNPSC-provided ammo free of charge in the Shooting Range and Kill House, without using Supply Credits outside the Supply Depot.

Manual loaders can be found in the Dormitory and Armory at the Facility, as well as in certain shelters in the Radius. These allow you to quickly load magazines using your own ammo.

MAJOR CHANGES

  • [Settings] Improved anomaly difficulty settings so lower options reduce random anomalies more consistently while keeping important anomaly clusters intact.
  • [Weapons] Added the G3 rifle and MP5 SMG.
  • [Radius Locations] Added notes left behind by previous explorers.
  • [Radius Locations] Added new reflections from Lauri.
  • [Facility] The playable guitar is now also available in the Supply Depot.
  • [Enemies] Mimic Spec Ops can now use grenade launchers.
  • [Missions] Updated the ending sequence to clearly show when Explorer 73’s story is complete and free roam begins.
  • [Other] Added credits.

MAIN FIXES

  • [Player] Fixed an issue where items could fly away when pressing Grab instead of holding it with Hold to Grip enabled.
  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where attached magazines were missing a grip point until the weapon was regrabbed with Mag Insert Assist set to No.
  • [Weapons] Small .45 and .338 ammo boxes now unpack correctly on the first try after purchase.
  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where dropping the weapon while inserting a mag could cause the mag to be dropped near the weapon instead of sliding back into it.
  • [Weapons] Folded stocks can no longer be adjusted while the weapon is holstered.
  • [Weapons] Improved overall weapon balance, including adjustments to prices, progression, damage, and attachment availability.
  • [Weapons] Reworked how weapon accuracy is displayed in the item info window, making differences between weapons clearer. Some weapons also received minor accuracy adjustments.
  • [Gear] Fixed an issue preventing items from being placed in backpacks, item holders, holsters, or the vise.
  • [Gear] Fixed an issue where the NVG effect could toggle off after grabbing a backpack with another NVG from the shoulder.
  • [Gear] Fixed paint continuing to spray from the can after it was dropped while holding Trigger.
  • [Gear] Fixed an issue where the Altered Light Bulb kept moving after being dropped on any surface.
  • [Gear] Fixed an issue where grenades could not be detonated by external damage.
  • [Gear] Fixed an issue where black and dark grey spray paints were not applied correctly.
  • [Facility] Fixed an issue where cleaning brushes could be used before purchase.
  • [Missions] Fixed a softlock in The Top Priority Mission: The Golden Sphere that could occur after saving and loading with one elevator key inserted.
  • [Missions] Fixed an issue where final mission items could remain with the player after completing the mission.
  • [Missions] Fixed an issue in the Top Priority Mission: Transition Experiment where the red UNPSC Sensor could not be attached to a rifle holster.
  • [Missions] Fixed an issue where the Unstable Door Artifact kept playing teleport SFX after being revealed during Top Priority Mission: Transition Experiment.
  • [Radius Locations] Fixed an issue where bullets could get trapped in the Reflector anomaly and keep triggering it.
  • [Radius Locations] Fixed an issue in Shelters where items could be removed by the Tide if they had been pulled but not fully grabbed.
  • [Radius Locations] Improved the lamp switches in the In-Between so they turn more smoothly and are easier to use with different hand poses.
  • [Radius Locations] Fixed a spot in Pechorsk Outskirts where you could get stuck between a shed and the terrain.
  • [Radius Locations] Fixed a spot where you could clip through the detached train car.
  • [Anomalies] Fixed the Dandelion anomaly not going on cooldown after triggering.
  • [Enemies] Fixed Mimics not firing back when damaged before they had seen the target.
  • [Co-op] Client armband color now stays consistent at different distances from the Host.
  • [Co-op] Fixed an issue where the Client’s hand could break after trying to grab an item at the same time as the Host.
  • [Co-op] The Host now sees the Client’s stamina and hunger correctly on the Explorer’s Watch.
  • [Co-op] Fixed an issue where voice chat could send previously spoken audio after being turned back on.
  • [Co-op] Fixed Ash soldiers appearing for Clients even though they hadn't actually spawned.
  • [Co-op] Fixed Clients being able to move while the loading screen was still shown.
  • [Co-op] Fixed players getting stuck inside each other after using the Door Anomaly.
  • [Co-op] Fixed selling animation not showing for Clients.
  • [Co-op] Improved overall performance for Host.
  • [Co-op] Fixed an issue where quest items in the Host’s inventory could be incorrectly marked as lost for Clients after rejoining the session.
  • [UI] Fixed missing item information on .338 ammo boxes.
  • [UI] The compass now points correctly when the Explorer’s Watch is worn on the right hand.
  • [UI] The player can no longer fall down in the main menu.
  • [UI] Creator Camera no longer freezes on the pause menu after returning to the main menu.
  • [Audio] Gunshot volume now responds correctly when adjusting master volume between 20% and 99%.
  • [Performance] Added another round of optimizations to improve overall performance and stability.

BETA FIXES

  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where the Compact G3 could display -0 accuracy in the item info window.
  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where weapon receiver parts could shift out of place after collisions.
  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where G3 magazines could be positioned incorrectly after being ejected with another magazine.
  • [Weapons] Fixed an issue where weapons loaded and purchased in the Supply Depot could stop responding to the trigger button after loading a save.
  • [Facility] Fixed an issue where items could stop responding to the trigger button after dying in the Shooting Range and respawning.
  • [Enemies] Fixed an issue where Mimics would not properly turn toward the player during melee attacks.
  • [Co-op] Fixed a crash that could occur when changing microphone settings.
  • [Audio] Fixed drop sounds for various items so they better match the object being dropped.
  • [Performance] Fixed performance spikes near the Supply Depot in the Facility.

Dev Diary // Responding to Feedback and Update 1.1 (҂◡̀_◡́)ᕤ

Hello explorers 👋

Since ITR2 left Early Access just over a month ago, our team has already shipped six bug-fix patches, and released the beta for the next update. While work on ITR2 continues, today we’d like to respond to a few important topics players bring up about version 1.0, highlight update 1.1, and share what’s next.

Common Issues and Topics

Now that we’re out of Early Access, we’ve seen a solid wave of new players join the game. That, combined with the 1.0 release itself, sparked a lot of discussions and feedback.

The biggest pain point is, of course, performance issues and bugs. We’re aware of them, and we’re fixing what we can. It’s important to understand that some issues are extremely hard to solve, partly because a portion of them sits outside what we can fully control on our end. After leaving Early Access, the variety of hardware, software, system settings, user settings, and VR-related tools on the players’ side has increased significantly.

In every update, the majority of changes are bug fixes and optimization. Also, be aware that stability and optimization doesn’t conflict with developing new content, different people handle different parts of the work.

There’s been a lot of attention on co-op stability as well. We’re working on that continuously, and in 1.1 (currently in beta) we’ve made significant changes on the host side, which is the main bottleneck for multiplayer. Let us know how it’s going!

We’ve also noticed various opinions floating around the game’s long-term support. We’re continuing to develop and release updates, and 1.1 has been available in beta for a week.

The game won’t have an “ITR1 2.0” type of transformation or support lifespan. Those that remember ITR1’s past, know it had a very different development history compared to its sequel. And luckily, ITR2 doesn’t need to undergo such severe changes. As for long-term support, we have plans for all of 2026 and part of 2027. They aren’t anything crazy, but we hope you’ll enjoy them nonetheless. Stay tuned for future diary entries.

Update 1.1

We’ve already shown the main changes coming in 1.1 through its beta. First and foremost, it includes a large batch of bug fixes and targeted optimizations to make the game more stable and comfortable to play.

The main content addition in 1.1 is the Shooting Range, which many of you asked about when 1.0 launched. In ITR2, we built it very differently than in ITR1. In the original game, the range was a separate level with loading screens, and you didn’t have access to your current loadout there. In ITR2, the Shooting Range is part of the Facility, available without loading screens. And you can use your own gear.

For convenience, we didn’t place it as a completely isolated area. Instead, it’s located right next to the Supply Depot, so you can pick and configure what you want to test, and immediately step into the range to try it out.

Alongside the Shooting Range (including a small skill check minigame), we also added a Kill House, which you can run solo or with friends.

We added two types of Magazine Loading Devices:

  • Automatic loader, which is available in the Shooting Range and Supply Depot. It quickly fills magazines with any ammo type you choose, and that ammo is provided by the UNPSC. You can use it freely in the Shooting Range and Kill House with no limits, but if you want to take that ammo outside the Supply Depot area, you’ll need to pay with Supply Credits.
  • Manual loaders, which are placed in the Dormitory and Armory at the Facility, and in certain shelters out in the Radius. These let you quickly load magazines using your own ammo.

The biggest new feature in 1.1 is 4-player co-op. It will launch in beta condition and will be iterated based on your feedback. Alongside supporting more players at once, we optimized host performance and improved synchronization and stability for clients. We also added walkie-talkies, making multiplayer more convenient and giving it a stronger tactical feel.

Also included (partially in beta and fully in 1.1) are changes to how the game delivers the ending. Players mentioned we didn’t clearly signal the exact point where the story ends and free roam begins. Now the game will clearly communicate that the story is complete, Explorer 73’s arc is finished, and free roam is not connected to the main narrative, so it shouldn’t be treated as story continuation or additional plot reveals.

Last but not least, we’ve added the G3 rifle. And shortly after the launch of 1.1 there’ll be an extra tiny update with another new gun. Try and guess which one 😏

Next Steps

Update 1.1 is scheduled to release in June, closely followed by stability and hotfix patches.

In parallel, we’ve begun preparing the Meta Quest version. We’re aiming to release it in autumn. Expect a more concrete date closer to launch. Please note, as we’ve stated before, co-op on Meta Quest will remain capped at 2 players, due to technical limitations.

We’re also working on additional lore materials, and exploring porting on other platforms. But we’ll share more details on all of that later.

Thank you for your feedback and support. And as always…

See you in the Radius ☀️
