Great Grey Owl - Safe and Ethical Distance?

Saw a great grey land on a branch nearby. Maybe 30ft away. Robins flying around announcing it and it stayed focused on the ground, like it was listening for something.

My curiosity got the better of me and I approached to get a clearer view, closest at maybe 15ft. He seemed fine, didnt fly away, and either focused on the ground or sometimes looked up at me and sometimes around. Over 5 mins there. Body posture was kind of like a cat sitting round, not standing up much.

I didn't want to get any closer, but since more of us were around, some others joined me, the bird stayed around for almost another 5 mins before flying to another tree. We were around 15, 20, and 30ft away.

I'm concerned, did we stress out the bird too much? Got some nice views and memories in the excitement of the moment but worried I let that get the better of me in terms of keeping a safe distance.

Would this bird be fine?

Surgery Recovery and Body Recomposition Plan Recommendation?

I'm recovering from a knee surgery (osteotomy), and need to get my health back carefully and with minimal load. Second knee surgery and in 20's, so really don't want to aggravate the bone regrowth and want to maximize success chances.

Looking for advice.

Goals:

  1. General recomposition goal: Burn 20lbs fat, and gain 10lbs muscle.
  2. Do it without stressing the knee, so I can reduce overall load on it as well. Am approved for quarter squats and biking now, but want to take my legs slowly. Low impact and trauma to it.
  3. So I guess lots of full body targeting (max burn ROI, and general health like core, posture, etc).

I previously was able to lose 50lbs after my last surgery (5 years post op for that one), by just raw 100 squats per day, pull-ups some days, and biking while binging a movie or tv show each evening. Total daily was 45-60mins combined. Low sugar and around 300cal deficit per day. Achieved it in 3-4 months during covid. No real format except the squats, and was just doing whatever I felt like doing while a show was on in the background.

Main goal is to do that again, but much smaller total weight change needed here, but of course, am missing the big driver, which was 100 squats per day. Want to achieve in 3 months. Will push later for a different plan for the 6 month mark to continue this. Bone will have hardened more by then. Will work up to swimming as a low-impact cardio option later on as well.

Does anyone have a plan I can load into my Fenix to motivate and guide me? Something full body, but just will keep legs to rehab exercises.

Ideally can do at home, 30 mins per day. Have a full workout machine, pull up and dip bar, bands, and gym bench with hyperextension (knees will not like the lock in of that extension just yet). No heavy dumbbells. Up top 60lbs weighted vest.

Having a guided plan will help with accountability, since there's a motivation and discipline aspect that creates a lot of inertia when we're not physically well. Thank you so much!

Here is what Chatgpt gave me. I guess I can try manually putting this into a custom workout plan in Garmin, but imagine someone must already have a fully fleshed out similar situation.

Thank you!

Uni Jetstream Prim 3+1 - Rattling Noise Solution?

Got this pen below, feels pretty nice. One small gripe I have is that since its 3 different metal modules inside, they move around and rattle a little. Is there some kind of foam padding or something that could be used to fully eliminate this?

Also, any ideas where to find a 0.7mm navy pen version? Or can I just plug 0.7mm modules into this?

Thanks!

Are Coins with Animal Drawings and Inspirational Quotes Haram?

Question:

I like avatar the last Airbender, and it had some inspirational quotes in the show. Sometimes rewatch it to get some positive life lessons and nostalgia.

While I'm normally strict about such things, and just look to Deen for positivity and inspiration, this is one of those shows I go back to since the lessons resonate so well.

Want to get some nicewhite lotus coins/pai sho pieces that reference the show. These have a positive quote from the show. It's a nice memory and of like something I can pull out of my bag to fiddle with and maybe read something positive and inspirational when I need it.

However some of them have an animal drawn on them, would having this be haram/ cause angels to not visit me? Also, would these coins fall into haram in the form of amulets? I'm viewing them as having a nice memory and positive quote on standby. Or is that a deviation from the faith in the strict form?

InkPoster Tela 28.5 vs 31.5inch Affresco?

Hi!

Looking to get a large eink display as a gift for someone.

Saw the 31.5inch Affresco from Inkposter, and it seems like the best deal I saw (unless I missed some other company? Any pointers/advice?). These are expensive after all.

I also saw the Tela on the same site. For people who have experience with both, is there really a practical difference?

Any other recommendation?

Thank you!

Justice and Fairness Between the Oppressed and the Oppressors?

Salam,

We are told that Allah (swt) will look at the soundness of our hearts, so our kindness, purity from jealously, hypocrisy, a want for good in others etc.

But this makes me fearful - we may have pure intentions, hope for good for others, forgiveness and endless grace and mercy for everyone, including those who harm us, since we would want Allah (swt) to overlook and forgive ourselves too.

But we are only human, and theres a limit to forgiveness and grace. There may come a point where an oppressed loses patience and wishes instead of guidance for the oppressor, but rather their destruction, the ending of their rizq, and the need to find assurance from our Lord that we are on the right side, with Him, in the form of asking for success but also wishing for the loss of guidance and destruction of the oppressor. Assume the oppressor is not a Muslim.

In this case, the oppressed has lost the soundness of their heart and is tainted by a desire for justice instead of mercy for someone that wronged them. Whereas an oppressor, who may be brainwashed or unaware of their actions - they can go through life happy and proud and view their victims as "having deserved it" (think an attacker who attacks people since they think they will be attacked by everyone - a pathological projector). So their hearts can more easily be grateful to their God(s) of having given them success. This person may even one day repent and become Muslim when their 30 years in the future and Allah (swt) guides them etc.

What then is the outcome here? The oppressed Muslim who loses their Noor, positivity, and undiscriminating mercy, is plagued by the fact that each time they make duaa against the oppressor, some calamity happens to the oppressed, while the oppressors life miraculously improves, vs the non-Muslim oppressor who finds it easier to be grateful to God?

An example would be the victims of genocide, who after years of oppression, lose patience, while an oppressor may one day repent, or even become Muslim. How can one reconcile this within the Justice of Allah (swt)?

And to a scarier level, how can we then know that we are on the right path after seeing seemingly miraculous blessings go to the oppressor instead of the oppressed, almost Dajjal-like events and that its not them who are on the favored right path? Afterall, a liar who deludes themselves will believe "this other person was going to destroy me so I destroyed them first", or someone with NPD may actually actively re-write events as though they are the heroes and God's chosen ones and anyone else who has a different recollection is an NPD, liar etc, and deserves it... etc.

New RTX Spark Laptops - Local Agent Privacy?

With the Microsoft + Nvidia RTX Spark laptops announced, with pre-baked in local AI capacity, do we anticipate total privacy at the OS level or telemetry and potentially even training off our files and workflows to the cloud?

If we can lock down privacy, then 1-2 gens down the line with a higher vram capacity and bandwidth would make this pretty cool... Do we anticipate whether we could use this hardware on a custom locked down OS like a Linux set up?

Thanks!

Longevity and Injury Recovery Mode?

I have a Fenix 8.

  1. Does Garmin have more longevity style data metrics like hume and others? For those of us who aren't in the full athlete mode periods of life?

  2. Related to this: is there a way to indicate injury recovery? Like I'm recovering from a surgery and can still barely walk. Tracking data on my garmin is the least of my worries, but just thought it might be cool if it told me how my metabolic and non-exercise metrics were progressing day by day all things considered within an "injury recovery mode"

Thanks!
