Guidance to getting ADHD assessment, lack of evidence as a child
Hi
Not sure if anyone can help but, I was assessed by my GP back in 2021 for ADHD and Autism and referredan me for a assessment. Nearly 2 years later, and chasing it with my GP, I had one done in Apr 2024. Got asked for old school reports and relative forms,
-We never saved school reports and they were never stored at the school (physical/digital etc.),, plus GDPR and Data Protection would require them to be destroyed (I'm 40 in 2026)
-I asked my parents, and only my father completed his form; however, my parents divorced when I was a kid, and my mother had custody of my sister and myself, so he couldn't really detail any information about me growing up. Plus, he is in 70s and memory is the bestest (ignoring age it is believed he has his own issues too).
Note: Since then I've cut all contact with my family due to personal reasons
I pointed this information out during my 2024 assessment interview, and they said they detailed it, not to worry etc. and passed it forward, and I should hear something.
2 years later, I've still not heard back, and I pointed this out to my GP, and the only information I get back is that my name isn't in the system and I try chasing this up further with my GP (to my understanding, they didn't re-refer me).
I got notified recently that I have an assessment (taking most of the day) and I said I had forms completed in the past (mistakenly thinking about the relative forms for the ADHD). As, I'm digging through my emails, I find an email for the ADHD people. I emailed them and got a quick response back saying they responded back in June 2024? and since refered it back to the GP and 'closed the case'. They were 'kind enough' to attach a digital copy of the letter, and I find that, due to a lack of evidence as a child, the assumption is that I don't have ADHD.
I replied back to them, pointing out how can they make this judgment without that information from when I was young? Not heard anything just yet.
What else can I do?
(Sorry for any grammar/spelling issues, I am dyslexic, the only thing that was assessed as a child, which I only found was an official diagnosis when I was 18/19 but I don't have that documentation anymore, as it was with my mother's documents, which was a miracle it wasn't lost before then due to multiple house moves.) - I had posted this on r / ADHD (it's awaiting approval)
