HyperBackup/Vault Connection issues

Currently trying to set up a few Hyper Backup tasks between my RS2418RP+ (source) and DS1817+ (destination).

Both devices are on the same local network, with the firewall disabled on both systems. Neither NAS is exposed to the public internet.

During task creation, I can consistently:

  • log in to the destination NAS
  • select the remote shared folder
  • choose the files/folders to back up

The issue occurs on the final step while establishing the backup connection. Hyper Backup successfully creates the remote vault folder on the destination NAS, but then eventually times out with the following error:

> "No Response from the destination server. Please check your network status and try again later."

I've also confirmed that the destination NAS is not running any data scrubbing or other heavy storage tasks while testing.

After MANY retries, I’ve managed to get two backup tasks created successfully, and both tasks now run and sync without any issues. However, getting a new task to fully initialize seems completely random — sometimes it works after repeated attempts, and sometimes it does not.

Additional notes:

  • Existing backup tasks function normally once created
  • Authentication always succeeds
  • The destination vault folder is always created successfully
  • The issue still occurs even when backing up an empty directory
  • Both systems are on the same LAN using direct local IP addresses

If anyone has run into similar issues or has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
