This laptop was a golden era

This laptop was a golden era

I bought one of these first year of uni, many years back. Got it off a guy I knew from the IT business, it was brand new and sealed but out of warranty/leftover stock from a business so I managed to snag it 50% off.

This thing was an absolute beast, jack of all trades and master of them all too. Non U-series cpu, a whole discrete gpu, thin, 2in1, OLED, the list goes on. This had to be the peak of laptops. It felt crazy being able to play a triple A game, and then flip it around and start writing notes. Such a unique design too, I got so many compliments from friends and strangers on the golden diamond cut edges.

Had to end up selling it 2-3 years ago but still miss it, modern laptops can't even compare.

HP bring it back pls 😥

Lenovo sent me a refurbished unit as a replacement for a brand new laptop?

Hey guys,

I bought the Ideapad 5 pro that was recently on sale (16" OLED, Ryzen ai 340, rtx 5050) and the first unit was delayed and when it finally got here, box was ripped open from the bottom so I instantly thought there may have been a theft attempt. The laptop itself was fine, except for a slight hinge misalignment and the trackpad being completely loose on one side, so I asked for a replacement.

When the replacement got here, all seemed good. Trackpad still had some play in it, but not nearly as bad as the first (I guess I may be a bit spoiled by the tight, glass-like ones on newer thinkpads) but the issue came up when I opened lenovo vantage. The warranty was showing as expired! I put the serial number into lenovos warranty check to confirm and it was indeed showing up as expired It showed a tiny little activation period within the same month. See the screenshot:

What's more concerning is that it was showing up as a Lenovo certified refurbished! I instantly hit up support, and they were trying to assure me it's a system error, but I have some doubts. They've since fixed the warranty status, but the refurbished status is still appearing there. Have any of you guys had something like this happen? I tried to find other posts but couldn't quite find the same scenario. I also noticed a slight bit of a dent/damage on one of the grills underneath, just today, and I'm 98% sure it came like that, since I've barely used this and it's been sitting on my desk for the past week. I just never got the chance to do a full 360 video when I received the replacement so it's impossible to be certain.

What would you guys do in my scenario? Even if it was flawless, the fact that it's coming up as refurb in their system is making me feel very off, as it was a big purchase for me and I spent all that money with the expectation of it being "brand new". Should I ask for yet another replacement? Y'all think they'll even send one?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

yall think I got a good deal with this? Ideapad 5 pro, 16" OLED with a Ryzen AI 340 and RTX 5050

Price is in CAD, after tax it was right at $1,400, or about $884 USD and $990 after tax. First time buying a brand new laptop, but I used to flip laptops all the time as a side hustle, and I'm used to getting sealed laptops for 40% off retail for example, so I don't know how to gauge as I'm out of the loop when it comes to new buys. Would you guys buy at this price?

How much would you guys even spend on a brand new laptop? Buying it as an all purpose laptop (work things, business apps, web dev, and finally being able to play my old backlog of <2021 games). Part of me is saying I spent too much and I could probably find a better deal on facebook marketplace lol.

Having used various high end thinkpads, the build quality on this leaves a bit more to be desired, and the screen is insanely glossy compared to other OLEDs I've used, but aside from that I'm really liking it.

I'm also wayyy out of the loop when it comes to specs, last time I was in the game the RTX 30 series was just starting to come back in stock lol. Some quick benchmarks research shows the specs are decent. CPU might not be best of class in this generation, but it blows previous gens out of the water. GPU seems to be about on par or slightly worse than the laptop version of the RTX 4060 I believe (or 4050, can't recall which one comparison I was watching).

On a side note, have y'all ever experienced receiving a refurbished unit when ordering brand new? When this arrive, the touchpad had way too much play for my comfort so I sent it back for a replacement. New one arrived and when I looked up the serial number, it showed up as a Lenovo certified refurb, and the warranty as expired. I reached out to support and they said it was a techincal glitch in their system, but I'm not sure I'm quite buying that 😅
