Lee Challenger Primer insertion pin head sizes
Hey all. The Lee challenger III comes with 2 primer installers. for large and small primers. Using the large unit seems to install the primers crooked, or often gouges the bottom of the pocket with minimal force, ive tried many different techniques to aid this, but still am often getting damaged primers and cases. Upon further inspection, I realized the Head of the pin, does not fully cover the bottom surface of the primers. So during install, that pin can jog and offset itself from the main axis of the press. This is not the case with the small primers, as the head of the pin matches the diameter of the small primers. In the first image, the small primer(left) has much tighter gap around the cup. On the right of the image, is the large primer, and there is a lot of clearance around the head of the pin. I contacted Lee and they told me this is correct...Can anyone chime in on this ? The second image is from a YouTube video, using a different set of primer dies, but you can see from that image, that the head of pins match the corresponding primer diameters.
