So I was given an older Squier Bullet Strat with a warped neck a while back. I tried straightening the neck, but it had a broken truss rod, so I trashed it and bought a new one from Guitar Fetish. With a little work, it fit great and played really nice.
The pickups left a bit to be desired. The stock bridge humbucker sounded OK, but the neck and middle single coils were pretty awful compared to just about any other Strat I heard.
So, I started shopping for pickups. My parameters were they had to be inexpensive, they had to sound pretty good, and they had to be AlNiCo-5 single coils.
Enter... these things.
I tracked down a Musiclily Pro-SE ST-60SE preloaded pickguard. The impedance and induction values were listed as about the same as a Fender Custom '69 set, so I rolled the dice on them.
They're actually pretty damn great. Very SRV-ish through an overdriven amp. Much better than the horrible cheap pickups I had before.
Tomorrow, I'm putting a similar set with a bridge humbucker in my Ibanez. Looking forward to that!
