How can I improve playing in general but also strumming while standing? It feels uncomfortable. I feel like I’m not very good at guitar and would like to improve. I also wanna look cooler while playing, I feel like I look kinda dumb right now

Just bought my first guitar

I’ve been playing with my boyfriend for few months. Recently he borrowed me his old guitar and I played a lot in my free time and got so interested and I decided to get my own. Now it’s time to leaaaarn for real, she’s so beautiful and I’m so motivated to play just by looking at her!

Guitar damaged after pickup swap

Hi everyone, beginner and self taught here. I took my ESP Ltd MH-17 to my luthier to swap the original pickups for a set of Stephen Carpenter signature Fishmans that I bought about a month ago. He has repaired another guitar for me in the past and did a good job, so I trusted him.

He originally told me that the starting price to convert it from passive to active would be 50 euros. After waiting 3 weeks because the guitar body had to be routed to make the pickups fit, I went to pick it up. I ended up paying 80 euros for the whole job, but he told me all he actually did was add the battery and change the jack.

When I looked at the guitar, he told me the marks left from routing the body were touched up, but it literally just looks like he used a standard black marker. I had also asked him to fix some cosmetic marks that were already on the pickups, but he ignored that completely.

To make matters worse, since getting it back, certain parts of the fretboard don't sound right at all (dead notes/buzzing). When I complained, he just told me that I need to loosen the truss rod myself.

Aesthetically, the sloppy routing job bothers me, and I'm frustrated with the playability. Is it normal to cause this kind of damage to the original finish for a pickup swap? Should I be expected to adjust the truss rod myself after paying him 80 euros for a setup and install?

I've been building a MIDI setlist controller for live gigs. Here's where it's at.

I've been working on this project for quite a while and it's finally starting to feel like a real product.

The idea is simple: instead of tap dancing across multiple MIDI devices or reaching for a laptop, you step through your setlist and song sections with one footswitch while the controller sends the MIDI messages for your rig.

This clip is just a quick demo using Smells Like Teen Spirit sections (not my cleanest take 😅 but it shows the basic workflow)

I'd love to hear what you'd improve or what features you'd want if you used something like this.

NGD Yamaha Pacifica SC Professional

This thing basically plays itself, it’s absolutely flawless. I’m not too sure on the colour though, what do you think?

What to get for my toddler?

So my toddler has taken an interest in my guitar and as much as that makes me happy, he keeps trying to pull the strings out or plays with tuning pegs, my amp, etc...

Last time he did this, I sat him down and showed him how to strum. It took about 5 minutes but he actually figured it out as good as a two year old can in five minutes but now every time I practice he wants to strum. I don't have a problem with him wanting to strum but I'm wondering if there's something between a toy and a real guitar I could get him?

I'm doing something wrong

I finally bought a Squier Classic Vibe after wanting one for a long time, but something feels off when I play along with backing tracks.

I'm running my guitar through a Behringer UMC202HD into Carla with amp sims. Even after dialing in tones, my guitar never feels like it's part of the song. It sounds like it's sitting on top of the mix instead of blending in.

I know my playing isn't perfectly tight yet, and the backing track is louder than my guitar, so those are definitely factors. But I'm wondering if I'm missing something in my signal chain, EQ, compression, reverb, latency, gain staging, or amp sim setup.

Has anyone else experienced this? What helped your guitar sit "inside" the mix instead of feeling disconnected?

Looking for inspiration! Show me your guitar recording or practice setup.

I’m currently waiting for my Quad Cortex Mini to arrive and it’s got me thinking about making a few changes to my setup. I’d also love to have my PC on the desk but it’s just too small at the moment.

So I‘m mainly looking for ideas on how you’ve organized your workspace and whether there are any improvements I haven’t thought of yet. Show me your setups please!

Help with rust on electric guitar

The guitar was given to me by my cousin a couple of years ago but hasnt been moved ever since.

Now, I am interested to learn the guitar but I want to get rid of the rust first before learning how to play.

Can someone give me advice on how to remove the rust?
Any advice would be helpful :)

Currently building my first ever guitar cab, and realized the speakers are godawfully close to the edges circled. Is this going to be a problem? will it affect projection and tone?

Let's talk about practicing...

Not a question - just a fun banter topic.

Do you practice? How long do you practice per day? Do you have any routines?

Currently, my warm-up/foundation is spider drills, pentatonic scales (I know the various modes, but don't use them daily), a few arpeggios, and whatever specific thing I'm weak on this month. Then improvise over a backing track or two. That's about 30 minutes of work before going into learning new songs or refreshing ones I know.

Opinions on Fender acoustics?

So I’m in the market for an affordable acoustic electric guitar for leisure and gigging purposes. Now, I already own a fender acoustic and it’s the Cd60 and I love how the neck feels when playing, so I figured I’d upgrade to the electric version. Just wondering if the electronics on their Acoustic electrics are any good? Are they reliable?
