Any left-handed players who regret learning left-hand?

Earlier today I contacted a store asking them if they flip a classical guitar for me. He said they can and are happy to do so but since I am new at learning guitar, it would be better to just learn the right -handed way, and he went on to give me more reasons such as

1.) You won't be able to pick up a strangers guitar and play some songs
(I'm left handed in a right handed world, we have learnt to use right handed things in a left handed way)

2.) There already is difficulty for both hands even if you play with dominant hand
(this one just made zero sense to me)

3.) You will have a hard time learning/reading tabs
(?????)

4.) Many left-handed people who choose to learn lefty guitar regret it later
(okay fair but still not a good enough reason for me)

So do we have any people here who learnt left-handed and regret it?

Also, what is it exactly with guitar players and pressuring us left-handed people into playing with our weak hand/arm, I do not understand this obsession..almost all sources I read online, they all are saying "just play right-handed"..but its like, well why don't you play left-handed then?..it's not like there's absolutely no way for us to play left-handed, there are ways yet these people still insist that left-handed people play the right handed way..i just don't understand the reasoning at all..

(i want to play fingerstyle exclusively if that matters)

Is my thumb here a bad habit/bad technique?

Been wondering for some time now whether my thumb on the neck here is bad technique. I don’t feel it hinders me at all, though.

Gonna go out on a limb and assume my action needs adjusting?

Super low action for first 5-6 frets, the gap near the higher frets concerns me. Should I take it to a Luthier to get it checked out?

Can I just go to Guitar Center to try on a electric guitar as a beginner?

I am totally beginner on guitar, and after I watched some band anime and it had made me wants to play an electric guitar, but I don't know if a guitar is a right instrument for me ( I played flute in middle and high school band, knowing how to read a Staff note), since a good guitar can cost a lot, and I don't want to waste my money on that. can I just got my local Guitar Center and try different models and picks without purchasing anything? because some of the instrument shop I visited doesn't offer try-on of instrument

How expensive can an electric guitar reasonably be?

How much money actually gets you a good guitar and from what price point up do you get diminishing returns?

I personally cannot notice the difference between lets say a 400€ guitar and a 1500€ guitar as long as both have decent fretwork, intonation etc.

i know that there are small differences in things like finish quality and i get ppl who dont want to mod their instruments, but even then there are guitars with ss frets, locking tuners, brand pus,...

is for example a usa built prs really just an aesthetic choice/status piece?

2 specific scenario disclaimers:

- i know evertune bridges are costly

- i know there are people who believe in tonewood

Also pls excuse my english, not my first language

volume knob solutions

What solutions exist for dealing with accidentally touching the volume knob?

I'm a metal player, so for things like sweeps this volume knob is definitely in the way. It's convenient placement for doing swell effects, but bad for other stuff.

So I am aware of the two common solutions which are tone knob delete and moving the volume to the tone pot location. The other solution involves placing a rubber washer under the knob to create a bit more friction to make the knob harder to turn by accident.

Is there anything else out there? I really don't want to do either approach, cuz a washer seems like it will stick and tone knob delete will leave a hole to deal with.

Maybe a volume knob with a very stiff (but even) roll action?

PS: the volume pot in this guitar is part of the EMG wiring kit...it's a quality pot.

Are These Worth the Purchase?

I was always interested in buying the stealth since forever (i dont really mind buying a b.c rich ripoff since they are just apple but in guitars). Ive seen the first option's image thrice in the next scroll but it seems like the first one is the original poster. 355 usd before and 268 usd after fyi.

Problem with the strings

I recently bought a Jackson Mignonne electric guitar, which was probably a display model because the strings were extremely worn out, and it was impossible to tune it properly or play it normally. The problem was that the strings were practically lying against the upper frets, and I could only really play notes starting around the fourth or fifth fret and above.

Because of this, I ordered a new set of strings and installed them. Things are better now and it’s playable, but the strings are still sitting very close against the upper frets up to around the third fret, and because of that the guitar has a terrible buzzing/crackling sound when I try to play on the lower frets.

What should I do in this situation? What could be causing the problem? Thank you. (Sorry if the pics are bad)

Would it be a good diy project ?

I saw this for a diy project (present for my brother) he will sand and paint it, and that’s maybe all. I can buy it with the case for 100€, but without seeing and try it before… what do you think ?

Help me find another electric.

I currently own a 2006 Fender MG-65 Mustang (vintage-style single-coil pickups), and a random custom built hard tail strat.

I love the Mustang, strat sounds like a good squire.

I love playing grunge, shoegaze, new wave, post-punk. (amp is Fender Twin Reverb, would like a AC 15 later)

I was kind of thinking a classic SG or a Fender Jaguar? It's so hard to choose. Maybe something that is better for heavier rhythm parts.

What do you think? ☮️

For content creators — what programs or pro tips would you recommend?

I’ve been playing for a long time, and decided to start building an online presence for originals and pedagogical content.

Hoping to ask generally, what aspects on content creating for guitar did you wish you learned earlier? What would you recommend for someone getting started?

Some specific questions:

  1. I see videos online where there’s moving tabs alongside a video of someone playing. What programs do people use to do this? Guitar pro?

  2. Did you create dedicated accounts for this or use personals?

  3. How often do you post?

Any other advice is very welcomed. Thanks!

9 year old learning bass at school - can he also learn acoustic at the same time?

Hi all, hoping to get some advice for my son.

He's recently started electric guitar lessons at school - we assumed he was learning 6 string but it turns out he's been put on the bass as part of the band. Personally I think he should stick with the bass as I've always thought it was the coolest (plus I secretly wanted to learn it with him!) but he wants to be able to play and sing so is really keen to learn the acoustic guitar (he's been inspired by you-know-who).

Would getting him an acoustic to practise at home interfere with learning the bass at school? Or could it compliment it? Unfortunately it's too late for him to switch instruments in his "band", but I'm keen for him to get the buzz of playing his own instrument as I never learnt anything and regret it!

I added some new picks to my collection!

I got into 3d printing again and remembered seeing a video about interesting picks, So naturally I decided to make one. I made a 20mm and a 35mm version just for fun, Honestly I like the 20mm. Its an interesting feeling for sure, Plus its fun to fidget with.

If you have a 3d printer or know someone that does than ill add the link so you can make your own.

Tom Anderson Vs. Suhr

Been seeing loads of discussion on Fenders recent escapades on cease & desists and it got me wondering about these two upscale S-type guitar brands.

Does anyone have any opinions on what the quality is like for those that have handled both? Unfortunately I don't think I'm in an area where I have access to any so I can only go by reviews online. I'm absolutely blown away by how pretty some Tom Anderson finishes are.
