Need help with thumb position

Hello all,

I’m a beginner and i have been following justin guitar’s beginner course for two months now and i’m basically obsessed with learning guitar. I’m also a bit paranoid about bad habits, so here’s my question. When i play chords like G my thumb always arches a bit away from me instead of being straight behind the fretboard. Is this something i need to work on? When i try to play with my thumb straight and slightly lower it feels unnatural and feels as if my hand is restricted from relaxed movement.

I also find it unnatural to play with a pick in my hand and can’t relax my strimming hand with a pick. Without a pick it’s fine and i can keep the rythm and strumming patern better. Any tips would help. I try to practice at least an hour a day altough since summer break, it’s been more like 3/4 hours a day. During practice i do finger stretches, chord changes, practice 4 songs (Hotel California, Wish you where here, Last of us theme song and knockin on heavens door). I also do the a minor and e minor pentatonic scale and i just started with music theory.

Any advice is appreciated, also sorry for my english, it is not my first language.

Hope you have a good day!
