I’ve switched my tactic about a million times. 6 months in of being highly qualified in my field. I’m noticing though that ZipRecruiter will say a role was posted 1 hour ago. I get gaslighted into being excited because “hey, they have to see my app now” only to realize the same position was posted on LinkedIn or indeed weeks earlier. GAHDAMN. Anybody else noticing this?

If so, how in the blood clot am I supposed to be an early application when every platform has different posting times? So tired of this fn bs!

Secondarily, I think the level of unemployment is being SEVERELY downplayed in the news. I mean, look at the threads on this subreddit…many industries are looking so bleak for people and many of us are out of work. And not by lack of skill, experience, and training! This is an intentional squeeze that’s underreported. Am I the only one feeling this way?

New Building Quality

It’s no secret, St. Pete is experiencing a warp speed burst of population, businesses and buildings. But I’m noticing that what they are putting up so fast doesn’t look like quality. Over on 22nd Ave n and 34th st. They throwing those buildings up but they appear to be all cardboard😅. Same over by the YMCA on Central and 1st.

Im no stellar engineer, however, I’m not seeing any cement? Homes in neighborhoods appear shoddy as well. I feel like if a football hits it they’re going down, let alone our level 5’s we’re known for right? Word on the street says these new “luxury condos” are starting at the $700s. They’re jamming these in residential areas to especially by child’s park.

Anywhoo, I’m pretty sure they will fly off the shelf regardless. Would you buy that?

Overcrowded

Quick question from a local. Gibbs high class of 04..does it seem like this town is not so small anymore? What I mean is, everywhere I try to go to scratch an itch is just overcrowded. Want to hit neighborhood bar, nowhere to park. Do literally nothing on the weekend anymore and it lines lines lines. I wfh, scoot on a Tuesday at 10am the roads re gridlocked. Pizza places don’t pick up the phone anymore- busy signals. God forbid I need to go downtown weds-Sunday for anything. Beach on the weekend? Forgetta about it. It’s beyond the normal snow bird congestion.

Now, growth is good and all that bla bla bla but the strangle hold is quite noticeable. Or am I trippin? Just me?

New Path to This

Hi yall! I’ve been interested in pen testing since I first started this kind of work. I’m a “cybersecurity” guy that got my teeth cut on IT Auditing and GRC roles. Made it to leadership and eventually running my own info sec department.

I never got over the itch to learn pen testing.

Talking to pen testers for projects was my favorite part of the job. Anyway, I’m a CISSP and been doing the above work for awhile. Had a layoff and now have more time to figure it out. I want to play offense and do red team shit!

So, I’m asking what’s a good path to train up for and attain OSCP? I have discovered Hack The Box. Seems they have good reviews. I’ve explored comptia as well. You all use of of those?

I don’t have time restraints, however I want to make sure the time I devote to it is in the right place. I want to avoid training on what I don’t need to from ignorance. So let me ask the OGs and pros here! The sail just needs a wind in the right direction. Thanks open to suggestions!

International Job Search

I was wondering about Americans who have jobs overseas? Ive heard of some countries saying they’d like people there if they can add skill to their society. Well, I want to expand my search from the American borders. Who out there is say, an American working for a Chinese company in Beijing? Shanghai? Hong Kong? What do you do? Americans in New Zealand perhaps? What’s it like being an American getting a job in a different country and working in that economy? Expats please share your experience.

Unemployed CISSPs

I was just curious in seeing how many people are in a boat like mine? Started out doing IT auditing, which is a good entry into the cybersecurity realm. I matured over the years to have different leadership roles, earned my CISSP in 2020, earned a Masters Degree in information systems in 2017, all the while rocking SOC2s, PCIs, ISO audits, risk assessments, penetrating, gap reviews policy writing-you name it. My experience is there.

Laid off in December and it’s been curtains since. I’m starting to doubt the value of my whole professional existence/history/goals going forward. I’d usually have a job, never gone 1month without. Now I’m rolling my 6th month unemployed.

I’m tailoring my resume to each role. Giving it the AI ATS rundown. Out of 400+ applications. 5 interviews, 0 offers.

Is anyone out there like me? I feel like gatekeepers are everywhere. I’m not a dumbass, I’m good at interviewing and I make friends very easy. I just don’t know what is going on right now and if anybody is having similar luck. I’m so stuck!

Rn now I’m taking penetrate tester classes trying to add to my stack but holy shit yall what is the problem?!

I’m a cyber security professional at my wits end. I was a Director and got terminated for a downsize the week before Christmas, after beating the deadlines and minting a perfect PCI4.0.1 examination for the company. In record when they had 4ck all for security when I stepped in 24 months I turned that whole thing around, built it, made it auditable. Anyway, the “family” company termed my ass right before Christmas. I have been looking ever since.

This last application was the straw that broke the camels back. For this 4ckin manager role I connected my LinkedIn, tailored the resume, and then they ask me to write all my history by hand? B🐶tch, look at the resume! See the profile! Why waste my gotdamn time when it’s already all there! Why is this tolerated. In operations they want effective, streamlined work. So why put this extra bullshit on the application?! I’m so fkn tired and want to skip the country. My last application was a customer service remote job doing billing. I CANT. What’s the CISSP WORTH SNYNORE?! Masters degrees in the field?! For what?!!!!
