Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Review. (Spoiler-Free) - PS5 Player
After nearly a week of playing it, today I completed the game and 100% the game, collecting everything I could. It is completely agreeable this is one of 2026's best ever games with its enjoyment of humor, engagement of it story and comic-book and film references, there's plenty to enjoy of the new Batman game.
However I cannot help myself but also express concern that I also have criticisms with the game, so let me begin my points
Please Note: This is played on the Playstation 5, so preformence issues can vary.
Positives
- A large interactive Gotham to explore - There's always something to do to reach that 100% goal.
- A ton of comic-book, film references across all media from Batman.
- A ton of suits and vehicles to collect
- A interactive expansive Batcave.
- Stunning visual design of Gotham
- The Story for me gets better as the game goes on.
- The music was so top-notch, really had different composers composing different segments of different eras.
Neutral
- I did have some issues that for now seemed to have being resolved after the Day One patch. Like my suit wasn't showing on the menu, and it was acting like I never played the game. I also had the missing content issue and the missing Batgirl suit, but thats all being fixed
- I have to be honest, I kinda do miss collecting tons of different characters, but I feel it gives the seven playable characters more depth and explore their abilities.
- I didn't really spend a lot of time in the batcave decorating it as I've liked too.
- I do find the AR Challenges ridicolusly hard at times, and some times are beyond beatable, I had to try a few attempts just to get gold on all of them.
- I don't know what it is, but some of the voice acting, felt off. I didn't mind the actor that played as Batman, it reminds me of the 70s and old day cartoons but something generally felt off. Maybe because its entirely new cast I don't know.
Negatives:
Note: Please note, this is my experience of what I feel could of being done better or improved, This is my own opinions.
Missing Suits - Am one of those people like many that will admit and say it "I like my games to be filled with content and different varient of content" - Batman is no exception. I do think for most of the part, I feel a lot of suits are missing or have not being added to the game, which really sucks, like Flashpoint Batman, new 52 Batman, the DCAU Justice League suit 2001, Red Robin and the most requested one that I was shocked to hear the 2004 Batman was not part of the base game and that felt like a slap in the face a bit given to what this game purpose is about. Point is anyway, there is loads of suits missing.
Lack of Batmobile variety - I am probably going to get killed for this, but just like the missing suits, there is also so many vehicles I could probably tell you all, this should be in the game, like the 1941 batman #5 Batmobile with the giant batmask on the front of the car, to 2004 Car, to the 2008 Brave and the bold cartoon car, to the Telltale series Batmobile to the Arkham Asylum batmobile. There's again like suits, so many I do feel that could of being added to the base game easily.
No replayablity. - This breaks my heart. after experiecing and 100% this game, thats it, Gotham is safe... there's no replayablity aside from the endless random crimes, there's no New Game+, I get the game has only being out a day, but I feel there should be more to do, I feel its one of those games that deserves replay value.
It generally feels TT has said "thats it caped crusaders! Your done, move on to the next game!" and for me, that doesn't sit right with me, especially a game thats worth £80 in my opinion.
Missing Content? Misleading development details? - Me being me but I do feel TT Games has worked hard on this game, but I also feel they've cut a lot of content and features out to what they originally promised. In August 2025, when the game was announced at Gamescon, Head of Development Jonathan Smith said Batman has over 70+ suits for the game, and in the end we got 42 suits if you inculde the DLC and the lego set for gold suit. He also told the public that "every single Batmobile would be in this game". To end with this, he also said the Batcave was heavily customisable, even said we can even choose what vehicles and suits to display, and manage them. I understand videogames go through stages where "this works, that doesn't work etc. and they add and delete things. But I do feel what TT Games tried to do was a bit overhyping the game. i just wish there was some more clarity on Smiths comments next time, rather then staying overhyped.
Batfamily members? - Like everyone else, we are missing a few bat-family members but I hope they could be added as a possilbity of DLC, characters like Jason Todd/Red Hood, Spoiler, Cassandra Cain, Batwing etc. It'd complete this game to be this "legacy" that TT has for Batman.
Locked Content behind paywall - For some items in the game, you either need an account to do this, to do that, to pay for these sets, to get the gold this and that, you need a HBO Max account to get two suits etc, I generally miss videogames where they added or inculded stuff in one game.
This isn't really cool TT... and it really alienates players who probably doesn't have access to HBO max or doesn't have money to spend on those lovely LEGO Sets. Hell even HBO MAX isn't avaliable in most countries still.
Final Thoughts:
Honestly I loved this game, it was all I ever wanted but I do feel now, if TT patched up the game and added more content, free outfits, or a season pass filled with tons of suits and vehicles and even characters and activities to do and that throughout the summer, we would absolutely have a flawless Batman game.
I do want to add this is a LEGO Game, while it might have some Arkham-Style videogame mechanics, if your expecting an Arkhamverse game, this isn't really for you, it still is a LEGO game. I do think for the more cautious people, to recommend buying this on sale.
Aside from this, look forward to September 2026, when Joker and Harley rampages the street of Gotham.
