Hey guys, this is my Gen 2 Stanton Switchback which I bought and custom build in 2016. Over the years I updated drive train to 1x12, Bike Yoke seatpost, and few other minor upgrades.
I ride uphill on a hiking trail for about an hour before descending on a bike trail. After that I take a lift or two to the top for another couple of runs. That’s probably 95% of my rides. I’ve been super happy with it over all these years, except the fact my arms hurt after the first downhill… it has come to a point where I’m not looking forward to second and third descent because how beat up I feel after the first one.
About year and a half ago I’ve bought FS as my second bike, and I’m riding it more than Stanton as it has Lyirk Ultimate fork and I can easily ride multiple downhills before I feel any pain.
What I’m trully missing on a FS bike is the hardtail part, so I figured as most of my problems are in the arms, I can probably buy a new 130mm fork and change the front wheel to 29”, and that would be it, right?
Is that a good idea, and if yes, what fork would be ideal for my setup? I’m thinking the 130mm is maximum as I now have 140mm and 27.5” wheel up front, so, for a 29” wheel I would need less travel to keep the current geometry.
The fork currently on the bike is RS Pike RCT3 Solo Air, and the photo above is from 2018 on some vacation ride, not on my local trails 😎👍
