Everyone is on this train wreck of 'omg, it's just another redo.'

Yes, it is. And while we want more lore, and a new game, we're not going to get one if we don't get on board with this remake.

It's a smart move by Nintendo. It's calculated.

Redoing SF64 does two things for us as a fandom... it gives older people a nostalgic vibe with amazing new art (arwings and planets and cut-scenes), and since StarFox has been utterly absent for so long, it's bringing in all the generations it missed. Plural. Multiple generations can enjoy this game, now.

The game play is basically N64s game play, but that has always been a solid game. The reason it wouldn't do well, right now, is because the gaming industry has better visuals all around. Reskinning the game updates it to be competitive in the new era. There's so many people who haven't played StarFox ever. It's the perfect foundation for the second game.... Nate did say there were two coming, and one is more ambitious than the other.

The movie put Fox in the literal spotlight. This game will give tons of new people the foundation those of us in the fandom already have. We'll get a flood of new fans.

If the game sells well... we'll see more from the franchise for sure. But they've already got a second game in the making, and I speculate we'll see a movie at some point, if this doesn't crash and burn.

Also, a remake of N64 did something else for the fandom... since they didn't have to spend so much money on software and coding, they could spend THAT MUCH more money on the graphics, which so far, look great. (I'm not here to get on a soap box for or against the character designs... I'm talking about the Arwings and missions.)

Besides this, it kept the costs down. The game will be more affordable (sans the need for a new console for most of us, which is... let's face it, StarFox's usual M.O. ... bait for a new console.) But that means more people will probably buy it.

It sets us up, though, for a future in StarFox...

And let's not forget the amiibo and plushie merch. And potential Fox merch in the second wave of stuff from the Super Mario Galaxy Movie...

I know everyone is disappointed, but I haven't forgotten Nate said two games, and from a business perspective... this is exactly the right move. Nintendo shouldn't cater just to those of us who were around in the 90s. We need the new generations, too.
