snoppa iväg

From Det Sjunde Inseglet.

The actor Jonas Skat has run off with the Blacksmith's wife in a sexual affair. The character Raval confronts the character Jof -

>Du är också skådespelare, och det är väl din

>kumpan som har snoppat iväg med Plogs käring.

Clearly Raval is saying your friend has 'run off' with Plog's wife, but I am curious about the usage of the word snoppat here. Of it's meaning/nuances.

Snoppa means to snip off the burnt part of the wick of (a candle or lamp), or more genearlly to cut off the tip of something. But I realize that snopp can also figurative mean penis/willy.

And I am wondering if the sentence spoken by Raval is playing on the penis/willy connotation? Giving the phrase is highly sexual connotation...

I tend to think this is most likely the intention, but I am not sure it would fit given the time period the film is set in... (perhaps snopp didn't carry that meaning in that era).

Är det inte värt att förvåna sig över?

More from Det Sjunde Inseglet...

The villian is stealing from the dead, and the girl walks in on him in the act.

He acts threateningly towards her, saying,

Varför ser du så förvånad ut?

Jag stjäl från de döda.

Numera är det ett ganska lönande gebit.

Du tänker springa ner till byn

och skvallra. Det tjänar ingenting till.

Var och en räddar sitt eget skinn.

Så enkelt är det med den saken.

(He leans over her, the vibe is that he will rape her.)

Försök inte skrika. Det är ändå ingen

som hör, varken Gud eller människor.

Är det inte värt att förvåna sig över?

Hoping someone can explain the bolded lines meaning (and the grammar..).

Än du spritter rask

A short song sung by väpnaren Jöns in Det Sjunde Inseglet.

------------------------

Ack ödet är en rackare

Oh fate is a scoundrel,

du själv min vän en stackare.

and you my friend a poor soul

Än du spritter rask

Än??? you tremble/quiver/jump/twitch fast/quickly

än du krälar i en mask...

än??? you crawl i??? a worm...

--------------------------------------

I understand that the song is basically saying one minute you are alive and vibrant and the next you are dead, but I am confused about the use (and meaning) of än in both lines, and also confused about the line krälar i en mask.

What does än mean here (and does it have different meanings in both lines?)

krälar i en mask sounds like crawl IN a worm but i doubt that is the meaning.

Hoping someone can explain the meaning and grammer in the last two lines here.

ond bråd död och moraliska magknip

From Det Sjunde Inseglet.

The Black Death plagues the land and the character says -

>
De säger att det går nån

>elak sjukdom i landet

>och nu spekulerar

>prästerna i ond bråd död

>och moraliska magknip

Hoping that someone can give me a super LITERAL translation of the bolded section.

I understand that ond bråd död is sudden death (with a sinister/evil aspect) but I am not so confident in my understanding of moralisla magknip. Also a bit unsure of the use of spekulerar, as in are they speculating or perhaps preaching....

Would like to hear peoples take on this.

Ingenting just

Watching Det Sjunde Inseglet.

The squire approaches a man to ask for directions, but discovers that the man is dead. When he returns to the knight the knight asks what the man said, to which the squire responds 'ingenting just' (he doesn't mention that the man was dead).

Clearly the squire is saying 'nothing', but i am curious about the use of just in the statement. Hoping some can explain it's usage here, if it adds any nuance etc...

Help with a few lines of dialogue

From Sommarflickan,

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xa85om0

15 min 25 sec

the young mother with an intellectually diabled son is talking frankly with the other younger 15 yo girl about her and her husbands decision to have a child.

>
Bror och jag vi är såna som planerar, förstår du?

>Ja.... nej jag aldrig planerar någonting. i så fall skulle det vara så fort som möjligt att komma i plugget.

>men vi planerade Roger (their intellectually disabled child). Bror var just färdig med sin examen, och jag, och så åkte jag in då.

>Jag låg på enskilt.

Q1) så fort som möjligt att komma i plugget - i assume plugget MAY be something to do with school and studying? hoping someone can explain this phrase.

Q2) Jag låg på enskilt - No idea what this means. Have I heard/spelt it wrong? I know enskilt means private/individual/seperate, but that doesn't seem to fit the characterisation of the woman.

annars

Having trouble with the use of annars in a few tv shows, particularly example #1 below.

  1. 04.45

https://www.svtplay.se/video/KGrX6Nj/bombi-bitt-och-jag/avsnitt-3?video=visa&position=260

The boy asks a forbidden occult question the answer to which none may hear. And the man panics, running to check the dead rabbit, and says - Nä, han är död. För djur har annars längre öron än vad man tror.

He is clearly suggesting that the rabbit may HEAR their secrets. But the use of annars here is particularly confusing to me, as I don't see how the standard interpretation otherwise/else fits the sentence.

I am aware that in Icelandic it can also mean 'by the way', but that is not listed in any Swedish dictionaries I have looked at EXCEPT this one case

https://sv.wiktionary.org/wiki/annars

förresten; anger ett plötsligt (spontant) byte av ämne, ofta när uttalaren just kommer på en viktig fråga

so I am wondering a) if this wiki example is correct, and b) would that be the correct interpretation of the word in the scene above? ie Nope, he is dead. Because 'by the way'... animals have longer ears than people think.

14.25

https://www.svtplay.se/video/jJbmZgj/vi-pa-saltkrakan/2-ro-ro-till-fiskeskar?video=visa&position=857

This next example may be just fine with otherwise/else, but I am curious.

The young girl has cooked some fish which the boy is eating, and he says - Tänk, jag brukar inte tycka om fisk annars men det här var jättegott.

Perhaps otherwise/else works here? Would he be meaning - I usually don't like fish IN OTHER CASES/MEALS/OCCASIONS, but this one was really good! Or perhaps it is - I usually don't like fish 'by the way', but this one was really good.

Watching Sommarflickan.

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xa6cz6a

  1. can someone please tell me what exactly it is that the train announcer says here at at 00.28 sec to 00.38

  2. at 02.52 sec the young girl is thinking/talking about her past summer jobs and she says -

'andra sommar har jag matat höns och galat bet och passat barn och diskat'

what does galat bet mean? (I probably spelled it wrong)

  1. at 08.25 the girl is observing the older woman and appreciating her beauty, and she thinks -

'men hon är snygg, säkert man är käng eller nåt sånt'

what does käng mean? (again I probably spelled it wrong)

I understand that it is basically an archaic word for a staircase, but I am hoping that someone can give a more exact description (eg is it a particular TYPE of staircase?), and perhaps also explain the meaning of lön in this particular context.
