482 visa cancelled and employer is willing sponsor 186
I was on a 482 visa and my employer terminated my contract in February 2026 because the company was downsizing. I have found a new employer and have started working with them. They have agreed to sponsor my 186 DE visa. They have not transferred my 482 visa yet and I have been working with them for 2 months now. It was my idea to ask them to apply for 186 visa instead of transferring the 482 visa because they wanted me to start immediately and the job market in 2026 is not great. I did not want to risk loosing the job given my visa condition and the job market because they will have to leave the job add for a month and they have opportunity to meet with other candidates and I could loose the opportunity. I was under the impression that once they company applies for 186 visa I would get a bridging visa once the 180 days condition for the 482 expires and it gets canceled. But when I was doing more research I found that that's not the case. Is it true?
Can the company and i just apply for 186DE visa? What will happen once the 180 days for the 482 visa runs out. Do I get a bridging visa for 186 visa. What is the best way to go about my situation.
