Tourist visa rejected

Hi everyone! Hope you all are doing well good. Me and my partner got married in December 2025 via arrange marriage set up and after some formalities pending in India ( our home country) we applied for tourist visa but it got rejected and now my husband is saying we will not apply for partners visa as it takes 2 - 3 years and he is not ready to consult an agent also because he is confident he has done all research. Please if anyone can suggest me what should I do ? Or has experienced such situation if you can help me with suggestions that will be huge help.

My suggestion was : Let’s apply partner visa and then apply for tourist visa but he said them after 3 months you can’t apply bridging visa after that. Is that true ? Am I stuck in this situation for forever ? Please help.

Can I help my partner financially with the Subclass 462 WHV Visa?

Hi everyone! My partner who is from America and living there wants to get the Subclass 462 WHV by December. We are doing long distance, I'm based in South Australia and she was here on a holiday visa for 3 months and wants to permanently live here in the future.

My question is, am I able to help make up a portion of the mandatory $5000aud aspect of the visa and send her, for example, half of that required amount, or does she need to make all of it up herself? Will they deny the visa? Secondary question, can her siblings help at all too?

She would most likely be staying with me and my parents so the accomodation is not an issue. I understand the bank statements aspect, at the moment I am a contractor working two jobs so my financial statement looks different every month. If they need my bank statement would they deny me based off of the fact I am a contractor? I know government related things tend to get iffy about money when you're self-employed.

We will still be able to get the Visa even if no one can help with money, it will just take longer is all and we want to try get this done by December (any LDR couples out there can understand).

I have looked around but I can't find a concrete answer and I'm not even sure if there is one. I'm just looking for anyone who has been in the same boat and what they did, any advice, any experiences, thank you :)

What should I do?

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting here and I really don't know if this is the right sub to do this.

Australia was my life long dream and I got my student visa as well. But now I am facing a dilemma. I had researched about this before coming here but I don't know what I should do. I am now enrolled in MBA at SCU. My migration agent told me that MBA won't lead me anywhere so I need to change my course to nursing. I think that is too risky in 2026. Should I go for that ? I am scared as hell. The transfers will be within the same uni but I am from non technical background. Won't visa hopping cause any problems for my visa ? Please help me out . I am so scared

482 - Non Related ICT Degree

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me understand my options because I'm getting overwhelmed by all the different information online.

I'm a Mechanical Engineering graduate but I've worked as a Data Engineer for the last 4 years. I'm currently in Australia on a WHV 462, and my employer is an accredited sponsor who is keen to sponsor me.

We're looking at a 482 visa, probably under either ICT Business Analyst or Data Analyst. The concern is that these occupations seem to require around 5 years of experience for a positive skills assessment, while I currently have 4.

Also, this ANSZCO is not in this Migration (IMMI 18/039: Mandatory Skills Assessment—Subclass 482 Visa) Instrument 2018 - Federal Register of Legislation list.

This is where I'm confused.

The 482 Core Skills Stream seems to require only 1 year of relevant work experience, but some occupations appear to need a skills assessment with additional experience requirements.

So my questions are:

  • Is the skills assessment the main obstacle here?
  • Does the 5-year experience requirement come from the skills assessment rather than the 482 visa itself?
  • The 5 year in my case is an automatic elimination or the immi has some subjective ways to decide that?

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have been through something similar. Thanks!

Parents visa application rejected due to financial documents

I applied for visiting visa for my parents in March. I showed around 30k aud as financial support for their visit but didn't submit anything from my home country. My friends parents got the visa but mine got denied. Im on 485 visa currently, i want to apply again with additional financial documents like property and pension. Is it wise to apply now or should I wait for sometime and are there risks of rejection again?

820/801 Partner Visa: How often to upload ongoing evidence?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some strategic advice on how frequently people upload ongoing relationship evidence for an onshore 820/801 Partner Visa application.

Our timeline and current status:

Application lodged: 2 April 2026 (currently on a Bridging Visa A)

Front-loaded application: We completed and uploaded our health examinations, police clearances, sponsor application, and the majority (if not all) of our supporting relationship evidence at the time of lodgement.

My question relates to ongoing evidence that demonstrates our relationship continues to be genuine and ongoing. For example:

Joint bank statements showing shared expenses, Mortgage and household bill payments, Joint insurance policies and premium payments, Other financial evidence accumulated after lodgement

For those who also front-loaded their application, how often did you upload additional ongoing evidence? Did you do it every few months, only when significant new evidence became available, or wait until requested by the case officer?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what worked for you.

Thanks in advance!

820 Partner Visa After Positive AAT Outcome – Possible Risks?

Hi all,

I'm a M Australian citizen and my partner is a F overseas citizen. We're hoping to lodge an 820 Partner Visa in the coming months and would appreciate any feedback on our current situation.

Relationship timeline:

  • First met: 2nd half 2024
  • Living together: June 2025
  • Registered de facto relationship: November 2025

I'm highly confident we can satisfy all four relationship evidence pillars.

Visa background

My partner is currently on a Bridging Visa B associated with a student visa application lodged in June 2024. That student visa was refused on the Genuine Student criterion.

She represented herself at the AAT and, in April 2026, had her hearing. In early May 2026, the Tribunal set aside the refusal and remitted the application back to the Department for reconsideration. (Positive outcome)

Since then, we have heard nothing from the Department.

The complication is that her course finished in May 2026 (a few days after the tribunal) and she received her Graduate Certificate in June 2026. So while the student visa application is still awaiting a final decision from the Department, she has already completed the course it was intended for.

My concern

At the Tribunal hearing, there were quite a few questions about our relationship and what her plans would be after finishing study. She was completely honest and explained that:

  • We were in a serious relationship.
  • We had not taken any formal steps toward a partner visa at that time.
  • Because she was subject to s48 restrictions, a partner visa was not currently available to her.
  • Under her circumstances at the time of the tribunal, her intention after study would have been to return overseas.

If the student visa is ultimately granted, the s48 restriction would cease and we would then be eligible to consider an onshore 820 Partner Visa application.

What I'm wondering is whether anyone sees the potential issue with the Department questioning why she has remained in Australia since completing her course.

My view is that it seems reasonable for her to continue to remain lawfully in Australia (on her current BVB) for as long as it takes while waiting for the outcome of a visa application that is still being actively considered following a successful Tribunal decision. The delay is entirely outside her control.

However, I can also see the Department potentially taking the view that despite holding a valid certificate of enrolment at the tribunal, she has since completed her studies and is effectively now waiting for a decision that could open up alternative onshore visa pathways, including a partner visa.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or can see any risks/issues with this line of thinking? If there is any suggestions of proactive steps we could take (other than have a partner visa application ready to go) while the balls in the Departments court, we are all ears. Thanks

Is Naati still worth pursing ?

Honestly gave up on the idea of getting superior English (I keep on getting 7.5 in wiring). I understand Aus gov will implement new point system and planning on removing Naati. It would be great if they make an announcement when this will be in place so that I don’t spend 800+ dollars on Naati for no reason.

Do we believe they will introduce new point system before next invitation round ? Should I still pursue Naati for extra 5 points ??

VETASSESS freelance role evidence. Is this worth pursuing?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently going through a VETASSESS skills assessment for a marketing specialist pathway and included a freelance/contract role I did with an Australian business onshore.

VETASSESS came back asking for additional evidence for this role, specifically proof of payment and confirmation of working hours.

I do have supporting documents such as bank statements and invoices, but coordinating with the employer to get a letter confirming my working hours has been difficult. He provided a letter confirming the total amount he paid me, but it does not clearly confirm my working hours in the way VETASSESS requested.

There are also some date complications because I continued doing some work for him after the VETASSESS period I am claiming, so the letter he provided includes dates beyond the period being assessed.

I was thinking of submitting his letter together with my invoices and bank statements, then adding a separate explanation/cross-reference to clarify the payments, dates, and hours. However, this would take quite a bit of effort, and I’m not sure if it would be enough to satisfy what VETASSESS is asking for.

For context:

  • I have approximately 5 years of relevant professional experience from the Philippines.
  • In Australia, the freelance role adds around 11 months of relevant experience.
  • I also have around 2 years and 5 months with my current company, made up of around 1 year and 5 months part-time and around 1 year full-time so far.

I’m trying to understand whether keeping the freelance role included would meaningfully strengthen my Australian work experience, especially since I’m aiming for the subclass 186 employer-sponsored visa pathway directly instead of doing a 482.

My agent has not been very helpful in clarifying whether including or excluding this role would make a meaningful difference to my assessment.

My questions are:

  • Would a package like this potentially be enough to satisfy VETASSESS: employer letter confirming total payment, invoices, bank statements, and a written explanation/cross-reference?
  • Or if the freelance role is not essential to meeting the required skilled employment period, is it better to exclude it and save myself the headache?

Appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Thank you!

Australia student 6

Hii everyone I am a recently bachelors completed CSE student, I am willing to go to Australia for university of Canberra for masters of data science i may receive my unconditional in 2 day's, should I defer or not for 2027 feb intake or should I go in this intake? Because I have not received my unconditional letter till now. By using this information, I tell you that PM Narendra Modi has entered into the Australian nation to discuss about the student delay and genuine student process, will it help for 2027 intake people to gain visa more chances than this intake? Because if I apply for the next intake, I would count as a fresher, if i apply now i will be at the end of the seatsand intake. If i might apply my application at the end of the August for the 2027 intake, if I apply for the next intake will i have more chance of getting visa. If I apply for this intake, I told you as usual but it may slightly delay. I will do up to July 20 my visa process, which is a better option. Can you please tell me the reality, harsh reality? Because it's my life and my ambition.

And also procs and cons for visa application at July 20th for July 2026 intake or Visa application at end of aug for Feb intake 2027

Australian spouse/partner for Indians

My partner and I have been in a genuine relationship for over 6 years and have strong evidence of our relationship, including photos, travel history and a formal engagement ceremony with both families present.

He is currently on a student visa in Australia and plans to apply for the Temporary Graduate Visa (TR/485) later this year. Before his application, we are considering completing an online marriage registration under Indian law.

If he applies for the 485 visa first, then later visits India and we have our wedding ceremony in May 2027, how long would it typically take for me to obtain an Australian visa as his spouse and join him in Australia? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Important Subreddit Update

Hey everyone,

We need to have a quick chat about the state of the subreddit and where we are heading moving forward especially now that we're crossing 100K weekly visitors. Which is a milestone in Reddit as it classifies the community as high traffic.

About 19 days ago, we decommissioned our old AiAutoMod. Since then, we have seen a massive spike in toxic, hostile, and flat-out useless comments and posts. It is making the whole sub feel incredibly unhelpful and unwelcoming, which is the exact opposite of what r/AusVisa is supposed to be.

To fix this, we have put together some major changes that are going into effect starting today. And as always if you have suggestions or feedback about our moderation or policies you are welcome to send us a modmail.

Low-Effort Post Titles

We are kindly asking anyone posting to spend an extra 5 seconds coming up with a proper title that describes your issue, and to assign the correct flair. This helps immensely with visibility on search engines, which is where most people look for answers to migration questions.

While we won't make this a bannable rule, we will remove posts that have short and useless titles like "485", "help", "please help", or "urgent help needed". If your post is removed for this, we will ask you to repost it with a proper title.

I put this one first because I think most people who do this won't read all the way to the bottom.

Easing moderation on processing time comments

Posts that ask about processing times or try to seek to crowdsource processing times are still not allowed, but, we will not be actively removing comments who share their processing times. Just remember that processing times can be found on Home Affairs website, they change every month, and thus sharing your current timeline is much better off in the Monthly Mega Thread, the more people that use it, the better.

Our New Screening Bot and Reddit Filters

We have developed a brand-new bot using Reddit's devvit platform (asuvisa-mod) to help us pre-emptively screen and remove negative comments.

  • Go easy on the swearing and aggressive phrasing, or the bot will catch your comment. The bot does remove comments which clearly break the rules, altough it is set to mostly flag comments for us to review manually.
  • Along with our bot, Reddit itself is now doing a lot of heavy lifting by preemptively removing comments and posts from brand new accounts or accounts with low karma and low community contributions.
  • The bot also helps clear the mod queue faster by approving posts/comments that have no reason to be sitting in the mod queue. Reddit often flags/removes comments that simply have no reason to be removed, 80% of our modmails are about comments/posts being removed by Reddit. So the bot should fix this by approving comments/posts faster if they are filtered.

The bot is actively targeting useless, negative comments that provide zero value. For example, simply telling someone "You don't stand a chance" without explaining why or giving them advice on how to improve their profile goes against our #1 rule.

Our Core Mission and Strict "No Toxicity" Policy

This subreddit is dedicated to helping immigrants, regardless of their age, nationality, or background. We do not judge people and we try to be kind and helpful.

Lately, we have seen too many people getting berated for their life choices or visa decisions. If you do not agree with an OP, or you do not want to help them for your own moral or ethical reasons, then just keep scrolling. Keep your opinion to yourself if that is the only thing you have to share.

From today, your comment will be removed if it is any of the following (but not limited to):

  • Hostile, contemptuous, mocking, derogatory, dismissive, blunt, negative, overly critical, discouraging or stereotyping without providing constructive information or reasoning.

I often see comments which provide a decent amount of accurate information but do so in a mocking, derogatory, or blunt way. These comments will also be removed. You can easily provide realistic feedback while wording it differently so it does not come across like that. People who are purposefully posting comments like these will be permanently banned without any warnings.

Approved Links Only Policy

To maintain the quality and safety of the sub, we will also be removing any comments or posts that link to non-approved websites.

Our main approved websites are:

  • All .gov.au domains
  • All official skills assessment authority websites
  • Long-standing, reputable news websites

This should cover almost all legitimate use cases. If you happen to post a link and your comment is removed, but you think the link is genuinely valuable and should be added to our safe list, please contact us via modmail. Do not try to circumvent this link rule or you will be permanently banned.

Or feel free to just modmail us a list of domains you think should be added, please provide a description of the domain and what it contains as well as what it uses. Recently registered domains will not be considered.

Do Not Engage With Trolls (Report Instead)

If you see a toxic comment, do not reply to it. Simply downvote it and report it. Please be as descriptive as you can in your report text so we can review it quickly.

If you reply to the comment, you are creating more clean-up work for us. Because we usually remove all replies attached to a toxic comment, replying means your comment will also get removed and thus your account might get flagged by Reddit as spam or unwanted. This can negatively impact your account's reputation with Reddit and cause your comments to be automatically filtered across the platform.

Sarcasm Guidelines/Suggestion

You do not have to use a sarcasm mark on your posts. However, if your comment gets reported for being toxic or misleading, and you did not include an ( /s ) tag at the end, we will treat it as a completely serious comment.

Please note that putting an /s at the end of your statement still does not allow it to break any of the rules listed above.

A Final Note on Free Speech and Immigration Views

Our actual rules are staying the same, but how strictly we enforce them is changing drastically. I am a big supporter of free speech and letting people voice their opinions, which is why we used to be a bit more hands-off. However, people have abused this by berating others and posting negative comments or by posting comments questioning someones intentions without providing any real value other than to speculate.

While I support free speech and understand some people's reasoning for having a negative view on immigration, this subreddit is not the venue to share those opinions or to let out those frustrations.

As we are crossing the 100K mark, it is clear that we'll need to expand the mod team at some point. If you are interested in becoming a moderator, you are free to send us a modmail so that I can add you to our list and interview you when the time comes. Please use the title "Mod Application" so it's easy for us to find, and introduce yourself, your reddit experience (in moderation is a pre) and why you think you'd be a good moderator. We will give preference to people who are and have been actively contributing for a while, people who have consistently demonstrated neutral, objective, helpful, and knowledgeable comments in the subreddit, and most importantly, people with positive karma. We are not actively looking to expand the mod team at this exact moment, but I am putting together a shortlist of potential candidates to reach out to when the time is right.

And for the people who've made it all the way through this massive post, thank you for caring enough to read the entire post and thank you for your contributions and help in this subreddit.

Indian Police Clearance Check and VFS Global shut down

Is anyone aware of the VFS Global temporary shut down? I’m in need of the Police Clearance Check and they can’t help with the shut down. I was asked to check with the High Commission in Canberra but they are not very sure either.

I need it for my visa application due in three week. DHA say it is okay to upload the evidence of applying for the check. I’m happy to upload the evidence but how will this affect my visa outcome or processing time?

I have submitted an application on the Passport Seva for Embassies and Consulates.

Does anyone how to proceed or any advise?

TIA

Left Australia without BVB

Hello everyone,

Before I get into it I just want to start by saying:

I am well aware that what I have done is incredibly stupid and very serious, I am very disappointed in myself for forgetting to apply for a BVB as I have done it successfully multiple times in the past. You don't need to tell me how stupid and careless I have been as I am well aware and in a lot of stress because of my terrible mistake.

I'm a UK citizen, I applied for a Partner Visa 820 onshore 11 months ago, my BVA became active in Jan 2026, I left Australia to visit my family member with cancer 2 weeks ago and completely forgot to apply for a BVB.

What is my move now to return to Australia? From what I understand I need to apply for a Visitor visa 600 and truthfully explain my situation. I am also eligible for an ETA and a Working Holiday Visa, are these an option?

I will call an agent tomorrow morning as it's late Sunday now so everything's closed. I'm incredibly distressed and would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has dealt with the situation in the past.

Thank you so much for your help.

Isaac

Query on JP stamp for 190 visa

Hi All,

I have received 190 visa invitation. I have submitted all the required documents. I also included the name affidavit document which is stamped by the JP.

My doubt is, do I need to get JP stamping on other documents too ? Like Marksheets, university degree, ACS, etc.

Please confirm if this is mandatory. Thank you.

VETASSESS Employment Contact Details

Hi everyone,

I'm confused about the Employer Contact Details section in the VETASSESS application.

My Statement of Service was signed by HR, and my former line manager is no longer with the company.

HR team provided the document with Director HR's signature, doc verification email, and no phone number. The person working on the documents wasn't the Director, it was someone junior.

For the contact details, should I enter:

  1. my former manager (no longer at the company, email would be with some other company domain)
  2. the HR Director who signed the letter (his work email & phone number)
  3. generic verification contact details? (doc verification email and company phone number)
