Nightmare difficulty level — nightmarish
This might not be a very popular opinion, but I find Nightmare difficulty to be pretty boring.
I appreciate that the developers are still supporting the game, and it's great that this update was released for free. But honestly, it doesn't feel like a particularly good addition.
At its core, Nightmare difficulty seems to rely mostly on inflated enemy health and damage, along with excessive projectile spam every few levels, which turns many stages into a visual mess.
I earned the platinum trophy a long time ago, and I was really looking forward to new biomes, characters, or difficulty modes that would give me a reason to come back to the game. But after my first ten or so runs, I realized that this mode just feels like a tedious slog through bloated health bars, and I simply don't feel motivated to keep playing.
In the past, I also had to replay certain characters dozens, maybe even hundreds of times, especially the more awkward ones. But that was fun because it was about figuring out each character's strengths and weaknesses, adapting to enemy patterns, and learning how to manage the run's economy.
On Nightmare difficulty, however, it feels like raw numbers are doing most of the work. Even successful attempts don't feel particularly satisfying.
On one hand, it feels like the stat scaling has stripped away much of the experimentation and creativity that made different builds enjoyable. Instead, you're pushed toward using a very narrow meta and hoping for good luck so it works at all.
On the other hand, even basic movement and weaving through enemy crowds has become frustrating because of the overwhelming amount of visual noise. Previously, this kind of projectile chaos was mostly reserved for boss encounters, where it felt appropriate. Now, the same constant barrage appears on every other stage, and it doesn't feel challenging—it just feels annoying.
I'm glad if other players are enjoying the update and having fun with it, but personally, I'm really disappointed. Disappointed enough that I felt the need to vent a little, even if this opinion ends up getting nothing but downvotes.
