Hiker is pretty difficult in nightmare more, Crash Zone.

I hate hiker, and the lance build in nightmare is also hard, there is a point where too much speed becomes a problem and with the added projectiles you increase the likelihood to crash into them. Crash zone is the hardest due to the enemy that span more enemies, the lance struggle with catching them all. If you get lucky and invest in attack speed perhaps you can pass it. I have seen other people do it, not saying impossible.

My final build is the taser and two torches, you need a snake yes or yes, with that the fire just spread to all enemies and can keep the enemies at bay. Then invest in some defence stats. You could do Wand and teaser too, but you will require one snake, two better, and a silver bullet at minimum. Taser helps the economy a bit too due to the support tag for harvesting.

Ps. This is to pass the hiker in nightmare with no retries, passing with retries albeit painful it is still not super hard.

Speedy with Hiking Pole (win nightmare)

Nice synergy between speed & range !

In Nightmare too much speed (+100) can be tricky and killy. So i try to Split and synergy speed and range with the hiking pole :

- more range: more damage, more safety.

- more speed: more quick steps, more melee damage.

Like that we can focus harvesting, chance, quick armure, dodge !!, more survivability 🙏🏼

I won without Killing bosses, but it’s possible with some little change for more dps

Rebalancing Needed ?

With the new expansion looming in the distance, I think now is a good time to assess the state of the game.

Specifically Nightmare Mode and how certain characters or playstyles struggle to varying degrees.

I think we can all agree that the Engineer is just a bad time on either map. Structures as a whole really suffer from the inflated enemy stats, and I find it kind of bizarre that Wrenches still don't scale off Engineering. At least for the Engineer specifically, I think their passive should be doubled to +100% Engineering modifications, because the only other option would be to have Damage % apply to structures and that would have much more dire, far-reaching consequences. Changing Improved Tools to a Tier 2 item would also help tremendously.

The Apprentice is another character who IMO struggles quite badly despite otherwise being one of the strongest characters in the roster due to all the free damage. Mitigating the health loss on D5 is pretty doable, possibly even too easy but on Nightmare mode you really feel it.

And then there's characters like The Baby and Technomage who have potentially insane late game scaling but are crippled by the increased level up requirements. I've never been a fan of that to begin with and feel it should be removed from the game.

You can overcome an XP gain penalty as some characters have. There's nothing you can do about the baseline XP needed to level up being increased and increasing exponentially with every level up.

As for things I would love to see added or changed, I think the Scope should be changed to a Tier 3 Unique item that adds Range scaling to your weapons. It's a pretty garbage item as is that even most ranged builds avoid because of the attack speed penalty and high cost.

I would really love to see a Pyromancer that scales burning damage with their passive, and burning damage changed to finally stack (or at least an item that allows it to) and maybe even a new Tier 4 item that allows burning to Crit.

It would be neat to have a weapon that scales off Regeneration since we have at least one for every other defensive stat.

And last but not least, a custom game option of some kind similar to what Slay the Spire had, where you can add all kinds of stipulations both positive and negative and create customized runs, like starting off with a random Tier 3-4 item or Pufferfish enemies only etc.

Tired of pretending that hiker isn't the worst character

i made a post almost a week ago also complaining about hiker but its just such a trash character. ive been trying for over a week to get my crash zone nightmare win with hiker (last one i need) and it just feels impossible. you need to roll like absolute god tier shops just to have a chance, and then you need insane movement just to stay alive. and even if you do all that, you basically cant fight elites so if you roll one that chases you around on wave 14 or 15 its just an auto loss. fisherman is one of the other characters people say is the hardest, but i was tired of losing so i decided to try doing fisherman on abyss cause i still needed that one. i got a win in under 2 hours, after losing on hiker so much nothing is a challenge anymore. and the thing is i know i wont even feel accomplished after i get this win (or the one on abyss) cause this character is just stupid. at least with fisherman or wounded it feels like the devs have presented me with a fun interesting challenge character, because the challenge is obvious when you read the description. hiker just feels like a character where all the numbers are too low for no reason so just get no stats and die. i just dont know what to do at this point other than crash the fuck out.

Brotato Weapon Calculator

Hi, I made a Brotato weapon damage calculator for anyone who is interested:

https://www.dabundo.de/brotatolab

Not sure if this is useful for anything 😄
Single-weapon only for now, no run sim, no items. Corrections very welcome.

BrotatoLab update - compare weapons, and some fixed numbers New

  • Compare up to 3 weapons against the same build, each with its own tier picker. Cards collapse down to a name + DPS row for quick shortlisting.
  • Remembers your setup between visits (stored locally in your browser, nothing sent anywhere, no tracking). Reset button included.
  • Range now slows melee attack speed. Modelled from Darkly77's data-mined formula, which reproduces the numbers the wiki quotes (Fist ≈10% slower at +100 Range, Rock ≈3%).

Fixed - these were giving wrong numbers, sorry

  • 17 weapon tiers computed DPS from a clamped cooldown - Blunderbuss, SMG, Chain Gun IV, Minigun, Flamethrower, Gatling Laser IV, Obliterator. The card showed the right cooldown while the DPS used a wrong one. Redo any comparison involving those.
  • Life Steal defaulted to 10% instead of 0, and it's a real damage coefficient on Chainsaw and Scythe - Chainsaw IV read 50% too high.
  • Melee cards could show Piercing/Bounces they can't have; comparison cards were missing raw and boss/cursed DPS.

Not taken into consideration yet

  • Damage caused to multiple enemies through explosions
  • Damage caused to multiple enemies through burning

Harvesting - When to get

I recently started playing Brotato after watching Dex play a bit, and i'm having a lot of fun. I've started figuring out when to buy things, what avoid, how to scale damage a bit. But the one thing that continues to confuse me is harvesting.

On an average run, if harvesting isn't the main draw of the character you're playing, do you still get harvesting? I know there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer for this sort of thing, but is harvesting generally worth it over the course of a run even if it isn't being stacked very much?

It's hard to tell how much it's really doing, and if it's worth taking a harvesting upgrade over a damage or armor upgrade on a character that doesn't "need" harvesting.

Any tips on how to use it more effectively?

Played fisherman for 3 hours - how on earth do I do this

This is probably the most I've felt lost on a character.

The best strategy I've come up with so far is spears as I feel as though I need the early HP and they do decent AOE dmg if I can group up the bait mobs

I have been trying to get 1 bait until I have 6 weapons and then scale it up to 2. Which simultaneously feels like too much to handle, but not enough for econ to stay afloat

Is this just a get good situation or am I missing a detail?

Edit: Nightmare mode on crash zone

I present a petition to have this menace to society that has haunted our community to be removed from these grounds immediately and to be banished to the shadow realm. Those who agree please sign below

This abhorrent creature has haunted me throughout my adventure and I have had enough of it, it does benefit us in any way and only ruins our trade

Wave 18 crash zone nightmare

Does anybody else struggle with Wave 18 specifically on crash zone nightmare difficulty? Over multiple characters I’ve flown through the run with no problems, but it’s put to a stop by wave 18 consistently because there’s just too many enemies on the screen. I have over 700 hours in this game and nothing has made me struggle more in this game thann the current state of wave 18 crash zone. Does anyone have tips to how I can beat this wave without having to give up every run?

What is the most critical thing to understand about this game?

I see posts from people with insane stats all the time and I just don’t understand how yall are doing it. I’m clearly missing something so I would like to more from the vets. In your opinion what is critical to understand about this game to reach those insane heights?

Sailor on Nightmare feels impossible

Guys, I cannot for the life of me finish Sailor on Crash Zone Map on Nightmare. It feels impossible given the weapons you need to use plus cursed enemies hitting like freight train. I've tried getting up luck a little bit so I can get weapons more often, but then I feel like I get behind on the damage curve and anytime I get more damage I die in one hit. I know this is not unique to Sailor on Nightmare but I've lost all motivation to continue playing the game because I beat a couple characters on Nightmare but have just gotten absolutely stuck on this one.

Just in case anyone is wondering Danger 5 was a breeze and Nightmare is like a whole other beast. I haven't played Abyssal Zone on Nightmare yet but I've heard others say it is easier than Crash Zone. Does anyone have any tips for Sailor??

why is snail rated low?

i read arosrising's tier list, he ranks snail really bad. but why its -8% speed to all so almost 2 stacks of ugly tooth (which is rated s-tier) AND stacks with ugly tooth. the only downside is -3% speed which is negligible.

486+ Hours Later… I Finally Beat Brotato for REAL. Every Character. Nightmare. Done. 😂

486+ Hours Later… I Finally Beat Brotato for REAL. Every Character. Nightmare. Done. 😂

Hey everyone, welcome back!

In my previous post, I mentioned that I had already completed every character on the highest difficulty available at the time, which was D5. After the newer characters were added along with Nightmare difficulty, I went back and finished the remaining characters on Nightmare and said goodbye to the game.

Well… I couldn’t stay away.

After some time, I ended up going back again and completing every single D5 character on Nightmare!

So now, for real this time, I can finally say that I have completely finished Brotato.

363+123 hours of blood, sweat, tears, frustration, and, most importantly, a ridiculous amount of fun.

Thank you to everyone who made this game such an amazing experience.

I’m also sharing screenshots of some of my characters for anyone interested. You can check out which weapons and builds I found the most optimal for getting them through Nightmare.

Thank you, Brotato.

Hopefully, we really won’t see each other again for a very, very long time.

...See you when the next DLC drops. 😭

Here you can find my old good bye post https://www.reddit.com/r/brotato/comments/1ulhlar/after_363_hours_i_finally_completed_every/

Picking up a cursed hourglass at wave 20 then dying on wave 19?

Being trying to make this happen for a while but RNGeezus hates me so I’ll ask does the game count that as a run won or lost? On the one hand you cleared 20 and beat the Boss/es on the other you died before round 20

I know you guys are posting your D5 1k+ level runs, but this is an all time high for me. Did it with lucky. I wish I could have manipulated out more Nuke Launchers.

Lost my save

So I was on wave 30-35 nightmare and closed the game (alt f4) and when I reopened there is no resume option. I have done this a few times before and it was ok. Any way I recover the run?
