How do you know when it’s time to say goodbye?
My 16 year old kitty has had thyroid issues over the last year. She has been on medication for it and has done well with it over all. Last week she started acting differently and began to hide more. During the last few days it has gotten worse with her hiding more and eating less. I brought her to the vet on Thursday and they did blood work. Apparently her liver is starting to go and jaundice is setting in. The thyroid meds are filtered through the liver so I’m not sure if it’s even working anymore. She has been drinking a good amount of water but it is still a struggle to get her to eat. I got her to eat some wet food last night but it wasn’t a lot. She is looking more weak and continues to hide. Even when I pick her up and put her on my lap (which she used to love) she jumps off and hides again. The vet told me the only other options I would have is to do a biopsy or discuss euthanasia. She is 16 years old and I don’t want to make her suffer by going through a biopsy so I’ve kind of come to terms that we are close to the end. My question is how do you know when it is time to let go? She’s not vocalizing pain but I know cats hide their pain. It’s to the point now where i have to carry her to the litter box to see if she can go because she doesn’t come out much. Any advice would be appreciated because I don’t want to let her go too early but I also don’t want to wait until she’s in pain.
Thanks
