The "Rainbow Map" is a coordinate guide for locations you can't reach on foot

I’ve been thinking about the "Map of the Rainbow Sky" that Ethan said is in The Cromenockle book. I think the "Rainbow Map" will be found to be real and will feature in one of the future episodes.

My Theory: A Map of the Unreachable
The Rainbow Map isn't a map of Fromville or the tunnels. It’s a map of the supernatural places that you can’t get to on foot. Places like the Lake of Tears are not physical places. The only way to reach them is by using the faraway trees.

You need Coordinates
I believe you need specific coordinates to get the faraway trees to take you where you want to go. This explains the mystery of the trees—without the "map" or the right coordinates, you’re just jumping in blind.

The Rainbow Map tells you what the places are and probably has some reference. The bottle tree likely has the co-ordinates. I believe that using both together will be the key to getting to the supernatural places. I know that the bottle tree co-ordinates were used by Jade already to create the music that made the Ankhooey children appear, but they might also have a double usage. Maybe music itself is going to be the key.

The Cave of the Lonely Dragon
In the book, the map is found in the "Cave of the Lonely Dragon." In the show, this "cave" is likely the storage place where all the stuff from the dead residents is kept. Acosta is going through one storage place right now. Another storage place is in the diner. One of these two places is where the map will be found.

The Merry-Go-Round Connection
There is a picture of children on a merry-go-round where each child is a different colour—the colours of the rainbow. This is probably connected somehow. Victor also drew something on one of his maps that looks like a compass, but isn’t quite one. It’s a circular diagram that matches the colours and layout of the merry-go-round. The show's writers like to leave multiple hints about anything that is important in the story. The pic of the children on the merry-go-round and the compass might be connected, and relate also to the rainbow map.

Many people thought that the latest episode (season 4, episode 3) was slow. But a number of things were set in motion. All of them involve the search for answers.

  1. Acosta is going to be searching through the belongings of past residents to look for clues.
  2. Fatima got Elgin to gather dirt. A snippet from a trailer has her mixing this with water and working it like clay. It reminded me of a scene in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" where Roy becomes obsessed and keeps making models of "The Devils Mountain" from things like shaving cream, mashed potatoes and mud. Fatima is trying to remember a vision from when she gave birth and saw through foetus smiley's mind.
  3. Jade has tried meditation and is now planning on taking magic mushrooms to bring back a memory that is just out of reach.
  4. Victor is about to remember The Man in Yellow, and it has him pissing his pants.

Sure .... the episode did seem pretty slow, but the search for answers is on and we are about to discover new things. The question is whether everyone is going to keep their answers to themselves, or start sharing them with each other.
