I have a client with level 2 autism and mixed receptive-expressive language disorder and his PBx is pretty mild for the use of SBT and I told my BCBA this, that it's probably unnecessary because his behaviors aren't severe enough but she insisted that she wanted to implement it anyway. He was engaging in more property destruction in the form of table swiping and aggression in the form of kicking me and the other RBTs during tasks at the table. We had most of those behaviors turned off for a while and then they turned back on soon after my BCBA took over the case. So she wanted to do SBT with him and I was like, wellp, not sure if that's a good idea but you're the Analyst so I'm not gonna argue. But over the course of just 6 months implementing this with him, I saw a huge drop in his use of functional language. He just said "my way" for literally everything and almost no other words. I was tracking his full sentence mands on my data sheet and there was a steep decreasing trend in his graphs. Then, a new BCBA took over the case and within about 12 weeks or so we saw a slow and steady increase in his use of functional communication and language acquisition starting immediately after the termination of SBT.

So that got me very curious about it. I am thinking about conducting a study on this specifically and doing my master's thesis on it. Has anyone else ever seen anything like that when y'all implemented SBT or read anything about potential side effects of language loss with this procedure?
