I am looking to add a laser cutter to my arsenal. I am not going into business. I am just a maker with a gap in his toolbox. I plan to cut wood and acrylic and am planning on doing some bigger projects (3'x2'). I am a retired engineer and have been 3-D printing for years and am not afraid of "some assembly required" or getting my hands dirty with some preliminary troubleshooting

  1. I am looking for suggestions of laser cutting models I should be looking at. I had originally decided on a Omtech Maker but read too many bad reviews on their customer service so I moved on from Omtech. I then started to consider the Monport Effi9S 90W CO2 but wondered what I would do after the delivery truck left a 500 pound box on a palette in my driveway. I do have space, electricity and ventilation for such a beast--just not sure how to unbox and place it.

  2. This one is probably even more important. I need some help understanding what I need to be looking for in a laser cutter. Do you guys suggest any blogs, forums, or YouTube channels to follow to help me sort out the laser cutting criteria so I can make my own trade-offs and decide what machine to purchase?

TIA
