Should I look to leave or push for promotion?
I am currently working in the UK doing indirect procurement. I'm a fixed-term employee and have done really well on a few projects and negotiations, where I should be able to have confirmed saving over 6 figures but the end of the year. I'm also implementing AI into our process as well. I've been in procurement for 3 and a half years now, with some additional supply chain experience leading up to this.
Im not sure whether to stay or go. Staying would likely involve trying to contribute to a Procurement function in need of maturing over the long term which I like the challenge of but i fear i could get better overall experience going to a company with an established Procurement team that focuss more on strategy where i can really learn from some a top head of procurement.
My contract is due to expire at the end of the year, and im not sure whether to just look for the next opportunity or stay and build something.
A couple of things to consider:
- I will likely get an offer for a permanent position
- I am currently being underpaid for what I'm doing
- Room for progression is currently limited
- im almost 30 and do want to aim for a leadership role later down the line
Is it better to just leave and try and get as much experience as possible, or do I stay and push for a permanent position and potentially a promotion?
If I did try to stay, would it be best to try and get a job offer to have leverage? My feeling is that hopefully, I wouldn't put a target on my back as I'm an FTC, so it would be reasonable for me to need to be on the market.
