Our next IRL meetup is now on the books for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 6-10pm, at the Santa Monica Brew Works, 1920 Colorado Ave.

These events are open to anyone and they are great opportunities to meet and socialize with fellow writers, actors, producers, and other industry types. We've had between 100-150 people at the last three events and we make it easy to meet people with name tags and an attentive host! What's more, there's actual free parking, it's a reverse commute, and there's no cover charge or pressure of any kind.

Tonight’s meetup was a tremendous success! Thanks to everyone who made the effort to show up, the venue said we had about 120 writers!

It takes a lot of courage to show up to these kinds of socializing events, especially if you’re coming alone. So kudos to you for making last night such a fun time!

I know writers tend to be introverts but flexing this muscle is important to success in this industry. We work in a collaborative medium and that means (sometimes unfortunately) that relationships are paramount.

And I don’t want to make the people who didn’t show up feel bad, or make you jealous if you don’t live in LA, but watching writers talk about their projects, exchanging contact info, and making friends makes the effort of organizing these events totally worthwhile.

We've been doing these meetups for over five years now and it's an incredible opportunity to meet fellow writers, producers, and actors. Just wanted to post a note thanking everyone who showed up last night to the Westside Writers Meetup. The manager told me we had about 150 people! And kudos especially to those writers who came alone, it takes a lot of courage to go to a social gathering where you don’t know anyone! Hopefully you made some new friends and honestly that’s what “networking” is all about, meeting fellow writers, directors, actors, and producers in an organic situation where no one is trying to sell anything, just making relationships based on mutual interests that can turn into real collaborations.

Apologies if you’re not in LA and this post gives you FOMO. I understand not everyone has the resources to pick up and move to one the most expensive cities in the country. But there are opportunities to form professional relationships everywhere and building a community of writers who can become collaborators is possible no matter your situation.

And if you are in LA I hope to see you at the next meetup!
