I don’t like my Taylor.. could it be due to high action?

Hello! I’ve had a Taylor 114CE for the past 3 years and it’s been my main acoustic guitar since then. However, I’ve never really felt in love with it. I feel it’s very uncomfortable to play, and in higher frets it is very, very hard to play. I also find it very quiet but that’s unrelated to action.

My action right now is 3.1mm in the low E and 2.9mm on the high e. Could that be the issue? Yesterday I did a set up on my old fender CD60, which feels much cheaper, and I had way more fun playing with it. My issue is I don’t know how to lower the action on the Taylor. There’s no official support near me, and Taylor won’t ship shims directly to me.

Do you think action could be so important? I can get the shims shipped to my country but I’d need to pay 200$ in shipping, plus tools and the shims itself. I don’t know if it’s worth it for a guitar I don’t love, but at the same time I think action could be the reason.

I’ve also considered getting a new acoustic guitar, but I will only be in a big city in 2 months so I can’t go to a guitar store rn.

What would you do? Taylor 114CE

Hello! I’ve had this Taylor for the past 3 years. I’ve never really clicked with it and I think it could be due to its action. I feel like the guitar is very hard to play, specially in higher frets.

I took it to a local luthier and he sanded the saddle (photo 3) a lot, and action was lowered from 4mm to a bit over 3mm. I know this wasn’t the right procedure because Taylor has its own shim system.

Now the issue is that where I live there’s no official support center. There’s only one in my entire country and it’s very far away from me. I’ve contacted Taylor a few times and they’ve never been helpful. They told me they have no way to send me the shims and asked me to bring it to the official support center in Argentina, even when I mentioned I lived very far away from it (I would literally need to fly with my guitar)

Is there anything I can do to lower the action? I already did a set up myself last week. Neck relief is ok. I think the saddle is as low as it can possibly get. Any alternative? Some way to get the shims? Thanks in advance!

Tuning machines for Squier classic vibes?

Hello! I’m honestly very happy with my squier jazz bass. The only thing I don’t like are the tuning machine. They feel kinda “gritty”. I don’t know how to explain it but they feel cheap.

Any recommendations? It needs to be on Amazon as it’s the only company that ships to my country. I tried looking up but there’s tons of models and I’m not sure if all of them fit my bass.

If you have any other upgrade recommendations, feel free to give them to me. I always have fun upgrading my instruments. I don’t have a budget but let’s say that if under 100$ is possible for the tuning machines, it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve had my Z50 for 5 years. Never bought any lens and never really posted my photos anywhere. I’ve been checking this sub to buy my first lens and decided to share some of my favorite photos
