[GEN 4][DECOMP] Bug testing for a friend, run into an unsolvable issue

I’ve been playing a HeartGold romhack for a friend to bugtest, and we’ve run into a pretty heavy bug, which is that the game freezes whenever Bayleef tries to evolve into Meganium. I’ve tried doing it at higher levels to see if it was just at Level 32 but the evo freezes no matter what level. I don’t know too much about the game as I’ve asked them not to spoil much, but I know the starters have received new abilities rather than just Blaze/Overgrow/Torrent.

Would anyone else know any other potential causes?

Was worried coming to the end as my horses kept flipping so thought I'd have to give up or restart, but managed to come through in the very end
