Successful Cerclage, Delivery at 41 weeks!

Hi community, just adding my success story here hoping it might help someone as it did me.

At my 20 weeks anatomy scan, they mentioned I had a short cervix and I didn’t really understand what that meant for this pregnancy. Then they said go to the hospital to check if you need a cerclage and I was like oh shit, it’s something to worry about and I skedaddled over to Reddit to check and lo behold we have a community! I met with a MFM and she did a cervical check and did not recommend a cerclage cause I was still closed and still had some cervix. Need weekly appts and start taking progesterone pills to the vag.

Week after, went to my follow up and I’m 1cm dilated. Got sent to the hospital and waited to get surgery. It was anxiety ridden. Is my baby okay?! Am I okay?!? The MFMs were like if you don’t want to continue with a cerclage… if you don’t want any risks then we recommend terminate but this could get you into early labor and the bag could get ruptured etc etc .. listing out all the scary stuff most pregnant women don’t wanna hears haha. We decided to move forward because we’d regret it if we didn’t even try. Small milestones.. make it to 24 weeks where they have a higher chance in NICU. Then 28, then 32 etc etc.

I got the cerclage at 9pm cause I had lunch at 1and had to wait for anesthesia. Went to the OR and then it was done. Slept at the hospital overnight and god discharged the next day. There were mix signals on what I could and couldn’t do… how active should I be? Old school docs says modified bed rest. Move but not too much. MFM says just pelvic rest. I struggled with how much I could and couldn’t do. Was taking an hour walk too strenuous now? Holding my toddler for more than 5 minutes?! I took it relatively easy. 15 min walk too strenuous train station for work and then just surviving summer pregnancy. Omfg so miserable.

Made it to 36 weeks, got it taken out and was prepared for baby to fly on out. Baby did not. Baby waited until 41 weeks! 41!!!!!

So long story short, cerclage worked. A little too well. I know it’s different for everyone but wanted to add my experience here too. Good luck all!
